I noticed that my avatar wasn't appearing, just a little box with a cross in it. Heading to my forum settings I tried to upload the image I've been using again only to be told it's 'Too big or not an avatar'
Have there been changes to what we can use as an avatar?

As far as I know, no changes.  I'll take a look at it next time I'm in front of a computer.

We recently did do a software update for some security stuff so it could be related.

Avatar?  What's an avatar?  That's an actual unretouched artist's rendering of my seldom seen self.    :neener

Do we forget that cops were primarily still using 6 Shot Revolvers well through the mid 80's? It wasn't until after 1986 that most departments then relented and went to autos.
Capacity wasn't really an issue then... and honestly really it's not even an issue now.

As well I have had the same problem with mine. I started to notice it about 4 days ago.

Are the avatars being uploaded to WTA or are the stores somewhere else?

Still no luck with mine. I even tried reducing it in size so the file was only about 7.5kB (had been 19kB)

The avatars can be no larger than 65px by 65px.  Try reducing the size and then uploading again.

Does anybody know if you can upload an Avatar on mobile device? It's been a looong time since I've been on the WTA desktop.
    Thanks, Paul

Image resizing is a function of PHP GD plug-ins.

They might have been upgraded if someone ran an upgrade command on the server.  That'd be either me, Steve, or Jesse.  I didn't recently.

Probably my fault.  I upgraded the SMF software a couple weeks back.   It indicates that GD is not Installed.  Didn't think the SMF upgrade would affect that since they should be completely separate.

Oh.  Well, just install it then.  ;)

    Code: [Select]
    sudo apt-get install php5-gd

    sudo service apache2 restart

I can do it if you want.

I don't know what you did, but it finally let me put an avatar up from my iPad. Have tried a half dozen times in the past but it finally worked.
