suggestion: Pinned topics
« on: February 12, 2012, 07:02:10 PM »
Pinned topics tend to stay pinned for quite some time.  Most users I suspect are in the habit of glancing right past them.

I don't know much about message board settings or programmings, but would it be possible to have a freshly pinned topic stand out somehow?  Highlight it yellow rather than blue? Flashing?

And then have it switch back to regular pinned status, either a week after it gets pinned or possibly link it to a user opening up that topic...kind of how your unread mail is bold until you open it.

just a suggestion

Unread topics or topics with unread posts have a "New" icon next to them.  Other than that, there is no other mechanism for making them stand out.

Stickied topics are pretty much invisible no matter what color they are.  If you want a thread to die fast, stickying it is a sure fire way to make that happen.

Really, they're only good for posting rules and the like; info that people need to have before posting.  For getting noticed, stickying is about the worst thing you can do.

Better to bump a thread now and then if it's important.  Then when it isn't, it can die naturally.

Arizona  Arm yourself because no one else here will save you.  The odds will betray you, and I will replace you...
