Why is a post lost if the submit button isn't pressed fast enough?

I've written a couple of long-ish posts but they get lost before I can hit the submit button.

Anyone else having this problem?

    I've not experienced this.

However, I think you might have posted a Star Wars review to a political thread.

I don't know how long "long-ish" is, but your connection to the site can time out if you take several minutes.  Sometimes this is your ISP, other times it is on the server end.  If you plan on typing a novel, write it in a text editor first and then cut/paste it.

    How did that happen?

I'll flag to ask a moderator to move it to its proper place or try moving it myself.
