Open in Same Tab vs Open in New Tab
« on: September 07, 2012, 06:45:01 pm »
Is this a forum setting or something I can change on my end? This isn't an issue on WTA. All links open in a new tab here. The problem is another board I'm on, fairly new, not terribly well put together. Every time I click on a link, it opens in the same tab, then I forget, close it and gotta go back to the site, find where I was in the thread, etc. Annoying as hell.

So is there something I can change on my end or is it a problem with their website?

I'd wager on it being the board configuration.

OTOH, (you probably already know that) if you've got a middle mouse button (e. g. a scroll wheel), you can use that instead of the left mouse button to force any link to open in a new window/tab.

If you're using Firefox, you could also use Greasemonkey to force all links on that domain to open in a new tab. Shouldn't even be terribly tricky to make it ignore links within the domain (e. g. reply-to-thread, forum profile, etc).

Also if you're in Firefox ctrl-t will reopen a tab that you've closed.

The mouse tricks won't work. I don't use a separate mouse on my laptop. And I'm using Chrome. Guess I just gotta right click or remember to use the back button.

Ctrl-left click works in Chrome for opening links in a new tab.

You might also see if your laptop's touchpad will let you do area tapping and set one area as a middle click.
