Grocery Carts.
« on: July 30, 2014, 06:17:14 pm »
IMO a grocery cart is another tool in the toolbox.

Where I most often go grocery shopping, in  a small town, they have both the regular ones, and the small ones. I really like, prefer, and use the smaller ones. I am single, and while I can often just carry out my groceries, I still use the cart going out to my vehicle.

Now where I reside, I have a lifetime CCW permit/license. My thinking, if you will, works for those whom are denied the right to carry concealed. And yes, in the name of being safe, and all that, one is wise to swallow pride, and use a cart, or cane. No matter age, gender, or how physically fit they are.

-One has a "tool", and distance is your friend.
-If one is CCW-ing, hands are free to access firearm, or cane.

In another thread it came up about using a cane, and many folks, younger balk at this. Another good point is, even though one does need a cane, do not over do the limp, or "seeming in-firmed". BGs check out targets, and prefer to "prey on the weak.'

Yes, when I had been through and recovering from surgeries, the cart made it much easier for me, and often I grimaced in without a cane. It was darn nice having a cart, to make walking in the store, and getting back to vehicle easier.

Oh yeah, maybe just two small plastic bags is all I had. In fact my last visit to grocery store was only 3 bags. The small plastic ones...

Just an idea...

Also...the cart can be used to block or gain distance against an attacker and give you the extra moment to clear your holster

I always use the cart to go to my vehicle. I live in a very rural area and the closest "city" has maybe 6k residents, but that is where the big grocery store is located. Even at Wally World, the cart goes out with me, and the thought is that I can use it to keep distance between me and some wannabe thug if need be. Never had to use it, but it is there.

Great tip and pointer, alone.  :thumbup1

And, I always park near the cart storage area so it is not a long walk back to the vehicle.

I have always espoused using a cart at the grocery store, for all of the reasons listed.  It can act as either a barrier, or as a weapon.

Shopping carts are great tools... When I worked at an electronics store, I used one to take out a shoplifter that was running. Probably couldn't do it again if I tried....

It could definitely also be used to stop an attacker. I remember hearing of a time a person was about to be attacked. They pushed the cart into their soon to be attacker and had enough time to get their self defense tool out..
