I picked up from my local merchant of death a brand new in box Remington 11-87 Sportsman Super Mag Waterfowl in some form of cammo.
I got an exceptional deal on it and to my understanding the 11-87 was/is supposed to be the Cadillac of semi-auto shotguns, the best in the biz of non-custom shotguns.
And I have made a mental choice to try and buy not just quantity of guns but serious quality (like the Broadsword).
Of course I'm not one of those folks who lets my new gun lay about to I immediately went to the range with a couple boxes of shells and tried it out.

Form and function on the range were perfect with both 2 3/4 and 3 1/2" shells it ran beautifully.

So I was planning on taking it hunting tomorrow morning.
As I was getting my gear together for the trip tomorrow I was practicing releasing the carrier and quickly loading shells into the mag.
When the carrier release button stopped working, I wiggled it and it worked again but the problem increased in frequency.
I pulled the trigger group out to see what was up, I can't see anything wrong with it but maybe one of the tabs on the carrier release button is a little too far out.
Then when I went to re-assemble the feed latch bar has moved forward about 1/16 of an inch blocking the forward trigger pin from going back. WTF!?!
I goobered around with it for about 2 hours tonight and I simply cannot get that pin into the front hole even without the trigger group in the gun.

Quite frankly I'm pretty devastated I've wanted one of these guns for quite a while and to have it go down within a matter of hours is just beyond my words of aggravation .
I am going to take this gun back to my gun guy tomorrow if he's open and I am quite frankly pretty put off of Remington, this is the 2nd gun of theirs I've had go face down on me but I certainly didn't expect it to happen within 12 hours of purchasing the gun and less than 30 shells through it!

I think I'm going to go try the Mossberg 935 series or a Baikal.

I dunno, I think we have got to be talking about two different shotguns here.
I have been shooting for more than 20 years I have literally never seen any firearm with the just crappy parts and workmanship of this hunk of junk. I've gone over every bit of this gun and the number of pieces made out of just thin bendy crappy steel blow my mind.  I am honestly really unconvinced that the receiver is actually made of metal. It feels and looks like plastic.

Looking at my 870 and this thing looks like they are made by two different companies all together.

I'm probably off Remington forever or at least quite a long time.
Even if they "make it right" I'm gonna turn around and sell this I want no part of a gun of this quality.

Back when I was working at the gun store, I saw enough problems with Remington semi-autos to convince me not to buy one.  But at the time, we also had nothing but problems with the 870 Super Magnums and the then new VTR's.  However, guys I knew at another store up north were telling me they had no such problems, and what I read on the 'net indicated that almost nobody else was either.  I remain convinced that we got a few skids of Monday morning/Friday afternoon guns from Remington on that shipment, but it's left a bad taste in my mouth for Remington.

If you can spare the coin, I like the Benellis.

Talked to my MOD today and he basically said to call Remington, I mean he was much nicer than that and I totally understand his position and the guy is 100% a close friend of mine but he can't do anything for me. I'm basically going to be at Remington's mercy on this one.

Updates to follow as events warrant, but as of now if/when this shotgun gets fixed its getting sold, it betrayed me and I just don't think I'll ever trust it.

If something is going to go wrong on a gun like this... It's going to be practically out of the box, or after a baillion rounds through it and decades laters.
