Red dot sight for a KSG...Suggestions?
« on: March 14, 2017, 08:06:05 PM »
I want to put a red dot sight on my KSG. DO y'all have any suggestions and why?

  Price range?

I'm not familiar with the KSG's sight height requirements (AR height? lower?)

I'd almost recommend the Vortex Sparc.   It comes with 3 heights of risers (or did?).   It has a sorta narrow FOV, however with both eyes open shooting it's not as big a deal, and it's super compact and slim.       Reason?  Vortex is good.  My one vortex strikefire has been on a saiga-12, .308 FAL, numerous AK's and AR's and has held zero and worked good.      My other "new" one was on an AR for about a thousand rounds and totally abused when the red dot quit working, green worked fine but red was gone.  Sent it to vortex, got it back SEVEN days later (including a weekend) with a brand new strikefire 2 enclosed.

Wow.  That's good service. ^ :thumbup1

My only experience with a quality red dot is my Trijicon MRO.  It is more compact than a Aimpoint PRO, but not tiny like a T-series.  One thing I like is how the optic and the mounts can be purchased separately, so depending upon your preference you could set up the same MRO for 'absolute' or 'lower third' cowitness on an AR, or on other platforms use a low mount or even bolt it down with no mount.  (For the record, I mounted mine with a low mount onto my Cx4, and it lines up just were I want it.)

Unfortunately, as I have not yet gotten to even dial it in, I can not give any report on the function.  I will say that being a Trijicon, I have no reservations about the quality of the unit.  Additionally, I have had good experience with their CS when I had to call them some years back about another product I had.

Sarge, if you want to try before you buy, I would lend you my MRO to run through the paces.  Just let me know.

Actually I forgot about that MRO.  for being compact it had a REALLY nice FOV compared to any other micro/mini red dot.

A bit pricy, but a good dot for something like a shotgun.

Mini reflex red dots work well on most shotguns.  A good choice in the $200 range is the Burris Fastfire 3.  An excellent choice is the more expensive motion-activated duty grade Leupold Deltapoint Pro.  These sights have an open field of view and weigh under 2 ounces, excluding mount.

Thank you guys. Those are good starting points. I'm pretty ignorant about red dots outside of an Aimpoint PRO especially for shotguns
