Just recieved some Ballistic Products SuperBuck #4B for a 20 gauge predator load project. Nominal is supposed to be .240"- actual .236" (per pellet weight 20 grains even).

Goal for 20 gauge predator load: 27 #4B, buffered, in steel shot wad @ 1200 fps in a 2.75" hull, roll crimped.

What wad? Most I can get is about 25...

VP92 available from Ballistic Products.

There is no buffered data available for this wad. So any loads developed will have to be pressure tested.

It's also pure murder on Coyotes at 40 yards.

As for consistent buckshot size:

Most...

... Rio 00B tops out at .340"

...Winchester # 1B slips in at .290"

Geeeeeez. Why is it that AFTER i shot my wad (no pun intended) and I load up on a particular buckshot round, and patterned it from my 870 that I come across what might have been better choices offering tighter patterns and lower recoil? Damn you all for sharing such information!

In some cases...

...LE buckshot loads are superior to the "civilian" version of the same load.

For example:

Remington's full power LE Express 00B uses hardened lead pellets with 3% antimony content.

This compares to the SAMMI standard .5% antimony for "soft" lead buckshot.

I swear by the Federal 00 with the Flitecontrol wad. I get it through the department so it's listed as a LE loading

I shoot it out of a Benelli M1S90 Entry gun and I had to dial in my ghost rings for the load. I'm talking 8 inch patterns at 25 yards all day long out of a 14" cylinder bore barrel

I call it, "Vang Comp in a box"

From link, it looks like a 1 3/8 ounce load -that is presuming actual .30" pellets @ 40 grains each. That would place this 15 pellet, 1100 fps load in the intermediate recoil category.

On the other hand, if the pellets are .29" (roughly 36 grains) the LE132-1B payload would be around
1 1/4th ounce.

Federal aready has the LE132-1B load listed in the LE product line:

Ken, I've test that load in other shotguns... Minute of Torso out to 45 yards and 50 yards in my 870's. 18" and 20" tacticals. That's a good load... no one has a load nearly as good. They just don't. So I use Buck to 50 yards and Slug beyond it. This is a far cry further than conventional thought for any scattergun just 5 years ago.

I keep on hand Hevi-Shot 00 buck, Hornady "TAP" 00buck, Federal PD132 00buck. Also Tri-Ball, from Dixie. These are all "ACE'S"

Hornady critical defense...the magic with the versatite wad is strong. Winchester super-x is not bad for some budget shot.

I have that loaded in my 870 and some Hornady tap on the side. Good stuff.

There might be one, but I can't think of any. The effectiveness of a shotgun comes from multiple, simultaneous hits. The individual pellets are about as effective as a .32 Auto or .38 S&W - neither of which set the world on fire. I want those pellets to cluster as tightly as possible to maximize effectiveness and to guarantee that they all go someplace important. Additionally, I am responsible for everything that every projectile and I prefer to have a very strong idea wear they are all going.

So of what value to the hunter or citizen defender are soft lead, no buffer, or no shot cup loads like Wolf, Rio, Nobel, or Centurion?
