4 Barrel Shotgun
« on: March 29, 2010, 04:49:37 PM »
Ok I'm sure people are going to select this thread hoping someone is making a 4 barrel shotgun, or just to see what madman would do so.  But the Howdah thread has me thinking about it.  If 2 shots is good, 4 is better.  And a breack action is going to be faster firing than a pump (in theory) and a semi-light short 4 barrel shotgun would be AWESOME.  IMHO.  Along the same reasoning for the Howdah.

I'm thinking about steampunk a lot lately and it seems a steam punk story is BEGGING for a 4 barrel.   >:D

Sucker's gonna be heavy.

Maybe if you build it with carbon fiber barrels (steel sleeved of course), a titanium receiver, and polymer stock...

I could warm up to a 4 barreled shotgun if it was vehicle mounted and worked like a "mini-gun"...... :devillol

cheers

I was thinking a single stocked gun (unlike the 1740) with one set of triggers (or like new shotties just one trigger, run in sequence by trigger pull) with 4 short barrels.  I think it could be light, my thought is more on speed with this one.

I think you're getting dangerously close to having Mutant Musket intervene with duckfoot pistol recommendation.   :devillol

 I dunno about 4....

But I'd love to have a 3-barreled shotgun  :devillol

P.S.  If you continue on a Steampunk story: Put her up  ;D  I like all that kinda stuff.  Just sayin'.

Two Stoeger Condors, Side by Side.  A clever forend and bracket to meld them...
It can be done.
But the real question is should it be done.
4 x 12 gauge.... sounds good on paper.  In practice it would be unweilding.  I've seen 3 and 4 barrel Drillings... they all sucked.  Some looked nice, but in the hand they were full of awkward.

You know, they do make that 8 guage in a SxS Double.

I'd totally be down for one in a 10" configuration.

It'd be doable using a firing mechanism similar to the C.O.P. .357 BUG.

Come to think of it, somewhere I have a book full of old pistols, which has a four barrel with that set up in .45 something-or-other, from about 1890ish, I think.

To clarify I'm thinking abouta  4 barrel shottie, with the barrels not lined up a la sxs or o/u but arranged in a diamond pattern.  Does that make sense?  Seems it could be stronger that way, slightly smaller, easier to use and would be intimidating as hell.

There are more contemporary 4 barrelled shotguns, like the Liberator from the '60's.

The one I really like though is the Colt Defender from the same era:

Wish I had one  >:(

Read more about them at this page:

Thomas F. Swearengen's The World's Fighting Shotguns also devotes many excellent pages to the history and development of this interesting shotguns.

But you mean something like this:

Yes?

Or perhaps something a little more blunderbuss-y:

Sean the top hand drawn picture you posted is almost identical to what I was thinking.  Althought I was thinking about it being painted black and ugly for a hit squad to carry.
