DSA voyager FAL rifles

so again, I'm moseying through the gun sites, and I made the mistake of looking at AIM's rifle catalog.
and they have DSA FALs for about 1k. so before I start squirreling away cash to feed my lust for a FAL. (which I've wanted but never really tried to acquire before) I'd like to know your guy's thoughts on them? are they good? or more like century arms where it's a crap shoot?

    DSA makes very good FALs. Though I prefer the inch pattern ones. Last I checked all of theirs are metric.

    Can't go wrong with one.  It's a great basic FAL.  The voyager models aren't going to have any of the fancy stuff like folding stocks or optics mounts,  but nothing wrong with that.   DSA makes an FAL that is every bit as good as an original FN gun.

    IIRC, the finish isn't as nice as their standard line (basic parkerization instead of duracoat, I believe), it features a fixed "Holland-style" rear sight vs. a range-adjustable rear, and it lacks a quick-release gas plug like the standard SA-58s have. I believe they also use cast receivers instead of forged, though last time I searched the FAL Files forums, there was some debate as to whether DSA was still using forged receivers in the standard SA-58 line of if they've changed over to cast.

    I wasn't aware they had changed the rear sights.   However,  it's easy to change that if you want to.  Also not a big issue if you decide to add an optics mount.

    They also use the straight Austrian style rear stock instead of the humpback Belgian style.   Either one will work just fine,  I've got examples of both.   However, I do like the humpback kind a little better.  It's easy to swap if you want to change it.  You can probably even use a cheap surplus one since most of the parts are US made by DSA now days, so you don't have to worry about foreign parts count rules.

    I have a DSA SA58. I really like mine. I bought it from a co worker and it's run like a top. I need to get a low power scope on it. Just one of the things on the list.

    Finish and rear sights can be changed. I'll price it out. But for now?

      I got to handle one a few days ago...was $800 I just couldn't justify it....

    However it really re-ignited the lust. I REALLY want a FAL again. ALmost enough to sell my PTR91...no....I can't,......

    But a FAL just feels right.  Whereas the PTR-91 I truly love, but mainly for it's price and cheap mags VS actual feel.

    Sure, same here.  But after years of paring it down to just the ones I want to keep, there is little fat left to trim.

    Even though.......I am having to order a new forend cap tenon.  A dovetailed, threaded part that holds the forend cap screws in?

       Yeah...friggin $1200 Winchester that sold new for more than that, and the screws were so cheap recoil stripped out the screws and the tenon they screwed into. ......that was a fun thing to find out.

    Surely I read this wrong, you payed 1200 dollars for screws?

    Bought a Winchester for roughly $1,100, it originally sold for around $1300-1400.

    It peeved me off that I had to go and buy a $25 tenon and $6 for extralength screws.   A gun like that shouldn't have been cheaped out in that spot.
