Mosin 91/30 scope mount option...
« on: October 29, 2008, 12:41:09 am »
Im looking to scope a MN, but i want something a little more modern then the pu/pem set ups

Anyone ever use this?  http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/detail.aspx?ID=177

They have some examples of the SKS but not even a pic of a Mosin. I *think* it will work, and I like the idea of a modern but russian scope on the rifle, and the SVD PSO/POSP will have just about the right markings on it for the 54R (Im assuming it wont be exact, based solely on the fact that a 91/30 isnt a SVD)

I bought the mount but not the scope, just to see how it would work... if nobody has tried it, ill post up results.

Are these the type of mounts that go on the left side of the receiver, and not directly on top of the receiver?
CaliforniaThere are many like it, but this one is mine.

The mount is just a metal plate off the left side of the reciever. Most PSO and POSP scopes have the mounts connected to them. they are over to the left a bit, just like a Dragunov.

The BEST Mosin Nagant scope mount is by Rock Solid sold through Tennessee Gun Parts, hands down.

I dont know. As long as it *fits* the POSP will be a easlily removed (and replaced with a kept zero) scope that you can use the iron sights with the scope mounted, Has a 1000-meter range finder for the 7.62x54R, modern optics, battery-lit reticule and will cost approximately $210 plus shipping

Oh, and its all Russian/Soviet, and still looks a bit like the PU set up, the best looking scope set up out there. (imho)

...If it fits. Which Kalinka says it will.

I was looking at there mounts like this:

The S&K scout mount is a decent choice.

    Thanks for the advice.

I had considered the S&K, but have decided to go with a side mount over any scout scope mount.  I have a full length 91/30 and don't want to put a scout scope on it.  Also I don't want to use the ATI or rocksolid type mounts.

I was interested in a side mount and a POSP/PSO type scope.  I also have the ATI Monte Carlo stock, and need it to be compatible with that.  It looked like BobOfTheFuture had the same idea and I wanted to see if he had some experience to share.

At some point in the future If I got an M44 or similar I may put a scout mount on it, or maybe just the MOJO aperture sights.

I have a 91/30 that I want to scope, and am looking at either a POSP (http://www.opticsbestbuy.com/POSP-Scope-8x42.html) or PSO (http://www.kalinkaoptics.com/rifle-scopes/pso/pso-3-9x24-tigr-w-1000-meter-dragunov-rangefinder-rifle-scope-sks-svd-version.html). My question is, as I am a lefty, would these scopes work?

I presume that since the scope mounts for these rifles are fitted to the left side, they're ideal for a right-handed shooter. Any southpaws out there use these? Any recommendations?

    Thanks!

I have a POSP scope on my PSL and I can use it lefty, I just have to tilt it a bit.  I don't know if that works for you but I have no problem with it.  :shrug
UtahIt doesn't cost me to be nice, but nothing gets you nothing and everything's got a little price.
