Market price for converted/unconverted Saiga?
« on: January 18, 2009, 02:17:31 AM »
For a 7.62 Saiga:
-What's the current market value for an unconverted Saiga 7.62? Last time I looked, a couple months ago, it was, eh, $300. That still hold true?
-What's the current market value for a simply (i.e., not Tromix) converted Saiga 7.62?

I am looking to get one.
Thanks for listening

Current value is about $500-$600
Converted (depending on what extras are involved) $1100-$1300

I don't know about you all but I have had enough of the price gouging. I know it will end and I know it starts higher than the dealers.(most of the time). I'm not buying out of protest right now.

Acutally we haven't raised our prices at all. If the distributers increace things we have to pass that on but we haven't raised anything just because (like all of our competition). We don't believe in the gouging either.

I was told that saigas will no longer be imported by russian-american armory.
is this true? or a load of bull droppings?

That is my goal too, a 7.62 saiga converted to evil ak format.

I was afraid of an answer like that.

Cheese and rice. Much as I want an AK... That's quite a bit.
Hm. Gawd.
Well... I should get one, I suppose. Ain't gonna get cheaper, may not be here for longer.
Thanks for listening

Any reason as to why they may drop Saigas?  Seems like Saigas have a very good reputation with their owners.

No one is really dropping the Saiga. They had a second importer bring them in the country when the first company had an exclusive contract. The law suits are flowing. Until things are resolved nothing is getting imported.

Picked up an NIB unconverted EAA Saiga about 5 years ago for $180.  It seems like they've done nothing but go up.  Same with the shotguns.

The quality is quite high, after all it's the Russians, king of the AK.

If I didn't have one, and was offered to buy one today at $500-$600 I'd be all over it, just because of the uncertainty of the political climate.

Nolo, if you can get one, I will convert it for you for the price of the parts, or if you have some tools I will be more than happy to walk you through it.  A lot of the older conversions dont work because of problems with the feed ramp geometry, but they are now making high cap mags for the saiga, so that is really not much of a problem anymore.
My goal is to be +20/-1000 before 2010!

OK, so how would you get a firearm from Galveston to Washington and back?

It would mean 2 FFL transfers, as my local FFL (East County Guns in Elma, WA) will accept a long arm from a non-ffl as long as the sender includes a copy of their drivers license.  He charges me $20 for transfers.  I would do the work, and then ship it back to your FFL, who would transfer it to you for whatever they charge.

If you end up buying one on-line you could have it shipped directly to East County Guns and save  a little bit.

So all told probably looking at around 75 for shipping and FFL fee's.

And another 75 or so for the parts (Have to be US made, so I would recomend a Tapco G2 double hook, US pistol grip, US buttstock, and either a US gas piston or front stock).

I have not done a Saiga shotgun conversion, my Saiga being a .308.

My goal is to be +20/-1000 before 2010!

Shipping directly to Washington would mean what for me, exactly? In Texas, you have to have a TX DL to get any weapon, and that includes FFLs. I am from MD, which doesn't allow evil-looking guns like that unless you jump through hoops. However, I'll be getting a TX DL soon.
I just don't want to tread on the wrong side of the line...

Having it shipped directly from the seller to WA wont be a problem, need to check with a Texas FFL about what it will take for you to recieve it on that end.

I thought only the purchaser could pick the weapon up from the FFL? Of course, I don't claim to be a huge expert on the laws.
I can work it out on the Texas end.

On a side note, the Halo Quad Rail is no longer in production, what alternatives are there?

Have you looked into the Beryl scope mount?  I think DPH makes them.

I have not.
I am looking to put a VFG and light on it eventually, and I'd like to put a reflex on it when I can afford one.

The Beryl scope mount IMHO is the best for mounting an optic, followed by the B-Sqaure one that replaces the hammer and trigger pins.

You can get a front handgaurd with a rail for $15 from Vulcan.  I have one with a light attached to it.

Both are waiting to go on my next AK build, will be a tacticool sidefolder with optics, light, and grip.

Think I am going to paint her pink camo though.

I saw only one 7.62x39 unconverted saiga on the last day of the Portland gun show with a price tag of $799!  There were .308 saiga for around $600.

However, there was an entire pallet full of 7.62.39 wolf ammo, but the .223/5.56 was gobbled up fast.

Sigh, this "change" isn't what I was looking for.

I was thinking the Ultimak... The Beryl doesn't float my boat aesthetically.
And I can't seem to find this Vulcan rail handguard, any help?
