    I've held this opinion for quite some time, but never put it in such detail. I completely agree. My tools are a sweet disposition and then a handgun, only if I need it.

    Not only do I think this tactic is wise, but for a 130 pound, hipster glasses wearing gentleman like myself, it may be the only option  :neener. Not to say that I don't have deterrents though. I always keep my eyes up when in public and I never use my phone or ear buds when out. Also fill my gas tank up at the halfway mark so I can always travel during an emergency or have the benefit of time if someone decides to aggressively follow me due to road rage.

    Agreed. Good stuff - thoughtfully presented.  I would enjoy debating him on his theory of open vs. concealed carry especially in light of his acknowledgement that appearing to be a "hard target" by your dress and demeanor might be effective to some degree.

    Would be very interesting. I am going to conceal carry for life, but let's just say if I was a criminal, I wouldn't necessarily be more keen to rob a guy that was openly carrying a firearm  :hmm.

     :eh Yeah, but... Let's take a look at Texas, Arizona, and Utah. Whether you can see the gun or not, given the gun culture in these areas the odds of you picking someone random still yields a pretty high chance of getting a free gun with said wallet. I know it's not a 50/50 chance or anything, but CHL's are pretty widely accepted now days aren't they? Same could be said for random car/truck jacking and finding vehicle guns. Especially here in Texas. Truck guns are a big thing.

    I guess we'd have to interview criminals to find out why they think like they do  :shrug. If they prefer open carry or not.

    You know that I like to play the criminal in my head, to plan out how I *would* commit crimes.  Me, I would much prefer open carriers.  They are a known quantity.  You know they are carrying, so while they are definitely a threat, you do not have to waste further mental resources on whether or not they need to be kept track of.

    Except that you aren't "thinking like a criminal."  That's almost as ineffective as a guy saying he tries to "think like a girl."  It just ain't possible.  Your brain isn't really wired for either. 

    In interviews with convicted felons, to a one, they've all said they would rather not have to deal with an armed target, they look for the easy target.  They aren't going to go for the obviously armed person, nor are they going to go for the guy with his head on a swivel, the one who's more likely to be able to identify a threat before it actually becomes a threat.

    And as for the whole "he get's the gun and the wallet" thing, the only way that's happening is an ambush, again, the cowards way.
