HK 416/MR 556 MSRP - $2995???
« on: June 25, 2010, 11:52:52 AM »
MSRP is $2995.  WOOF.
http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2010/06/23/hk-mr556-listed-on-gun-broker/

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2010/02/03/hk-hk556-pricing-revealed/

So its 3k.  The SCAR is what - $2500?  The ACR (if/when) its available is $2800?  This is just STUPID Money.  I'm sure people will pay it, and its the companies right to charge that much.  And I can even see the SCAR and the ACR being that expensive as they are "new" guns.  The HK is a rebuilt AR.

For me I'd rather spend that money on a 556, my personal choice.  But if I'm going to get an AR I'm going to order a freaking Daniel Defense or a RRA and 3 cases of ammo.

I guess it just caught me off guard that its a "production" gun thats 3000 dollars.  I could easily see spending that on a custom job, no problem.  So I guess its 6's.

Well, you have to add a 50% price increase for the HK logo.

I am with you Harm.  The system I run is a basic AR based on a high quality upper and optics and have run it pretty hard with good results.  This is a system that I have less than half the money invested in it as the HK/SCAR/ACR setup. The AR has been proven....something that the others are still lacking.

Well, you have to add a 50% price increase for the HK logo.
While I think their is some truth to that, HK does make excellent firearms and there is a price to pay for quality.

You have to pay for quality.  However in HK's case you also pay for condescenscion, arrogance, and and their disdain for you as a customer.

Seriously though, $3000 for an AR??  What the heck does it do to warrant that price?  That's crazy?  It's just an AR that fires 5.56, not magic lightning. Why?

Extra level of attention to detail, higher steel quality, hammer forged barrel, piston design, etc.  I am not saying that it is worth it, nor am I sticking up for HK, but there is more that goes into their product than meets the eye.

I'd rather just get a complete LMT with 16" or 18" bbl with piston.  It's probably a better deal.

Seems like a preposterously high price, but ISTR that HK had gone to some additional effort to make the MR556 not incompatible with existing AR lowers, owing to some quirk of either the German or American import/export restrictions on arms. Specifics escape me, except that there was a bunch of blognoise about the location of the receiver pins, and then a statement of some sort from HK that the MR556 would be compatible with standard AR receivers.  Might go a way to explaining why it's $3K instead of $2-2.5K if they're paying some import/export penalty or had to set up US production or something.

Personally, I think I'd rather have an ACR.

If the average price of a AR is around $1000 and the average new car is around $22,000 what are you getting for your $$? I guess what I am go after here is that I believe that  guns are in some respect like cars. Do you go for the name and blingy rep that goes with a $2800-3000 as some would go after that Mercedes or BMW? Or do you just want the most for your money?

H&K, despite all the hate, makes a good firearm. $3000 good? Better than something half the price and worth it if your ass is on the line? I don't and will never know.

I was just in Wyoming, and a gun store there had one for $1950. Not bad at all.

I don't really think we're the target market.

The price will come way down if/when they aren't picked up by some military someplace.  Until then, I doubt they care if we buy them.  :shrug

Interesting.  If I were in charge of the business I'd say that UNTIL the military picks up the rifle, that I want every interested civilian to buy them!  But thats just me.

Well, here's the thing...  the .MIL buying your rifle is not affected by it's popularity in the civi market.  And in fact, it very well may make it harder to get the price you want from the .MIL when you're selling them cheap to civi's.

On the other hand, the civi market is absolutely affected by what the .MIL buys.

So sell to the .MIL first.  The civilian market is secondary.

No I get that.  And I wasn't suggesting that they sell them on the civilian market "cheap".  Simply available.   :shrug

At least they are selling it to Civilians.  Something the old HK would not have done.  This new HK, while still expensive, is at least open to Civilian Sales.

Only on their terms George.  Sorry I know you saw something that made you change your mind at Shot, but for the rest of us, we're still not convinced.

Uh, pass.  Thanks anyway, H&K.

The MSRP of the HK416 shouldn't surprise anyone.  Look at its competition: the LWRC M6, the POF P416, the FN SCAR-L, the Bushmaster ACR, the Robinson XCR, etc..  All have an MSRP of between two and three thousand dollars.
