FAD assault rifle
« on: December 15, 2008, 08:35:32 PM »
The FAD assault rifle is a proposed service weapon for the Peruvian armed forces and its layout is supposed to be very ergonomic.

The information below was posted by Fulcrum of Peru Defensa (www.perudefensa.com):

Quote
The Dual Automatic Rifle (FAD - Fusil Automático Doble) designed by Salomón Braga Lozo of SIMA (Navy Industrial Service) is a proposal centered around the cartridge NATO 5.56x45mm that offers less recoil, less weight and volume while at the same time giving precision, adequate range and ergonomy that is to be coupled with a grenade launcher (40mm) in a single package.

The weapon design includes the advantages of the bullpup system, while trying to deal with the issues related to it.

Designer and its creation:

Proposed Final Arrangement:

- "bullpup" configuration; being a compact weapon can be easily used by armor crews, as back-up weapon.

- Cartridge case similar to that of M-16. 30 cartridges 5.56x45mm. (STANAG 4179) inclined to 12°.
- Ejection Port to 45° allows the unobstructed ejection of cartridges.
- Rate fo fire of 550 shots per minute with an effective range of 600 mts.
- 40mm grenade launcher with pump-action reload mechanism.
- Standar sight,manually regulated.
- Rail Coupling Picatinny type for the instalation of Optical lens.
- semi-automatic and automatic firing modes.
- Use of lightweight materials will alow a further weight reduction from current 4.8kg to 3.6kg.

Hate it.  They are trying to get too spacy without doing any actual improvement to the base concept of how the weapon operates.  The angled magazine does not nothing to improve the function even though they say it does.. when your feeding of AR mags... your not improving anything.
The barrel isn't free floated and to me it's looking about as consistent as an early Mini-14.

How odd. Jayne would have loved it.

It looks bent in the middle.

Oh, and Jayne, if he was enjoying a gun, it had itself chromed, and boxy.  Blunt and brutal, not sleek and spacy.

It's official: a retard designed it.
Sorry, but a circle is not ergonomic to the human hand, buddy. And the angled magazine does NOTHING but make your weapon more awkward. If it did, we'd always angle our ARs when we shot them.
Thanks for listening

Flimsy sights open trigger guard.  Design by committee.  They would have been better served to swipe the AUG and add the product improvements from Saudi Arabia and Australia.

Geoff
Who wonders what rifle is replacing the AUG in Austria?

How do you get lighter recoil AND lighter weight. More importantly, how can you possibly get, or even want, lighter recoil from 5.56?

This is one of the stupidest rifles I have ever seen. Period.

I don't THINK I'll ever have to face down routers in the streets.

I should hope not. Mobs of rogue woodworking tools would suck to repel.

If I buy another space gun it'll be the FN FS 2000. I love my PS 90 but can see nothing appealing about this rifle.

BTW a good pun is it's own reword. :bowdown

in all seriousness, why does the gun look like it was designed by two junior high airsofters in shop class? And, they got an F. Seriously. It looks terrible. Ergonomics aside...is it a mock-up? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over.

I'm pretty sure I could build a significantly better assault rifle in my home workshop.

Of course I plan to do just that (non NFA of course).

Will do. It's really just going to be an AK in 6.5 Grendel with a STANAG magwell, but I still say it will be significantly better that the above thing:vomit
