I know PSA has had customer service issues in the past... anybody deal with them recently? Have they gotten any better?

Reason I ask is I bought an upper from them - ordered it Sunday night, got here Wednesday - no shipping charge(!!).

So, I'm really happy with how quickly it got here. It's complete, no missing parts, but.... it doesn't fit my lower.  I can get the pivot pin to seat, or I can get the takedown pin to seat.  I can not get both pins to seat.  If I hold the rifle rightside down, and shine a flashlight into the hole the takedown pin is supposed to lock into, I can see it *juuuust* not quite clearing the takedown block.  If I seat the pivot pin, and hold the rifle up to the light, there's a slight gap back by the buffer between the upper and lower receiver, that narrows as it gets closer to the pivot pin.

The AeroPrecision and CMMG uppers I have mesh fine with the lower.

So, the question is - Do I bother with PSA's customer service, or just take the upper I bought and have everything transferred to the upper that I know works?

The local gunsmith charges $50 to swap barrels (and last time I checked, their wait list was four weeks long), and shipping the whole upper back to PSA for warranty replacement will likely run close to that.

If you can, try it on another lower from a reputable manufacturer just to rule out issues of tolerance re your two other uppers to what might be a slightly out of spec lower.
What I'm trying to say here is you want to be able to tell PSA that the upper doesn't fit multiple lowers known to be in spec vs telling them that their upper doesn't fit as well as uppers from two other manufacturers.
It's just covering the bases and being thorough, it's not that I expect it will fit another lower any better than it fits yours.
They should replace it without you needing to jump through any hoops.

I would try another lower as well.

Regardless I definitely would contact PSA.  They've had good CS Every time I've called though it's been over a year.

I've quit using PSA due to horrible customer service. Granted I haven't place an order with them in more than 3 years. They won't get another dime from me.

I can only hope their service has gotten better. Good luck.

    Thanks.

I'm checking with friends, to see who else has an AR, see if I can meet up with 'em this weekend to try the upper on their lower.

I'm not horribly worried - if their customer service fails, I have an inexpensive fallback (or a perfectly valid excuse to get the tools to do it myself).

I would love the opportunity to unfluff PSA's customer service.  Their handling of many issues and some of their policies are just crap.

Guess it's all in the CS rep.

I've had nothing but good things to say about PSA.   I've called them for three things:

#1. Malfing AR10 upper.  New one returned in less than 3 week turnaround.   Considering we're at opposite ends of the country I'm happy.

#2.   Build kit without anything except the upper.  Replacement sent out 2nd day air, arrived in 3 days (again...I'm in the boonies).

#3.    Received a standard "budget" BCG, not HPT/MPI with Charging handle like I had ordered, they sent a new one and a return label, both arriving quickly.

I had problems getting them to answer the dang phone. Multiple times. Send an email or leave a message, never any response.
To make things worse, at the time I was a customer, you had to go to arf dot com and post on their thread to get a response from them. I doubt there's anything they could do to get me to do business with them again.

I just sent them an email, essentially saying "Hi, thanks for the rapid ship of the upper, but I'm having this problem with it. This is what I have done, this is what I will do, do you have anything else to suggest before I request a replacement?"

Just got an email back from PSA - "If your tests don't prove fruitful, we can bring that in for service and replacement."

An hour and change? I'm happy with that. I let him know it may take a week or two to line up schedules, but that I'd keep them informed.

    So far, so good.

I'm wondering if the upper got torqued/warped when they were mounting the barrel?

On the other hand, I got the email that the upper shipped at 9:40pm... today.

Sooo, two days after it shipped, and the day after it arrived (the upside in living in the next state over, I reckon).

    Fantastic!
    They shipped Tardis Express.

    Wellll, fluffernuts.

I tried the upper on a friend's Wyndham Weaponry lower, and it fit perfectly.

    Aero Precision.
From the Coleburn debacle?  It may be the lower.  Mine was very tight, front to back, with a DPMS upper.  With the pivot pin installed, the takedown pin juuust would barely go in.  Like with a hammer, or nothing.

I switched to a RRA upper, and it fits the lower perfectly.  The DPMS was given to my brother in law who has a DPMS lower.  It fits his fine.

I'd say put your existing lower back with your existing upper,  then buy an extra lower to go with the new upper.   You can get them cheap these days, and then you have another gun.

Well, as I mentioned in the OP, I've also got my original CMMG upper, which goes on just fine.

If I buy another lower, I also need to get another BCG and charging handle - the reason I bought this upper is it didn't come with them, but I could use the pair from my .300 BLK.  It gave me access to cheaper plinking ammo for as little output as possible.

Yes, but.... extra gun!    I once bought a rifle because I needed a shipping box to send another rifle off to the gunsmith.    :cool

So let me get this straight  :scrutiny. Your business model is to buy more guns in an effort to save money?  :neener

Yes, but.... extra gun!    I once bought a rifle because I needed a shipping box to send another rifle off to the gunsmith.    :cool

This does seem to correlate with his economic plan  :neener.

    I think long term...

But it's also in the SHTF scenario of needing to be able to access as many different ammos as possible, and it certainly wouldn't hurt for it to be one easier to find than .300 BLK.

I never took you as the prepper type, Booksmart  :thumbup1. I really need to get my act together, when it comes to prepping. I've got a weeks worth of groceries and my current medical supplies consist of, from remedies for least serious to most severe trauma, a stick of gum, an aspirin, and one bullet :hide . The worst part is that the stick of gum is off brand and sugar free. Times are tight these days.

I wouldn't label myself as a prepper... more as a cautious observer of possibilities, and what might need to be done about them.
