Primers!
« on: January 22, 2009, 06:12:51 pm »
I know, these kinds of threads are useless, but I have to ask, WHO BOUGHT EVERY SMALL PISTOL AND SMALL RIFLE PRIMER IN STOCK IN THE WHOLE BLEEPING COUNTRY!?!?

I was getting ready to make a good-sized stockup order and was shocked at the bare shelves in Graf's and in Powder Valley.  Perhaps like with EBRs since November, there may have been a lot of panic buying going on with primers and even a number of powders.  The only kind of CCI primers I can find are benchrest primers for almost $40/1000 at Powder Valley.  Wow.  Even the only Wolf primers that PV has are magnum primers, and it looks like the end of February per the PV site before they expect to have those in.

Wow.  I think I'll check back there every week and make an order as soon as I see some CCIs or Winchester primers back in stock.
Anyone know what's going on, and is this just part of the same phenom as the gun sales surge since November?  I've only been reloading for a few years but I don't ever ever remember seeing PV this cleaned out.

It's just part or the reaction to the election I think.  Demand out ran supply.  A few places locally have primers in stock.  Mostly federal though.

Give them time to catch up.  Noticed Powder Valley had low numbers right after the election and they caught back up mostly right after new years.

    There's a lesson here-

Buy what you can when you can.  You never know when circumstances will knock you down.  Always buy twice what you figure you'll need.  Then you're covered if life throws you a curve ball.  My trigger time is precious, and I'd hate to give it up over something easily avoided.

Yep.  I never thought I'd get to where my low-level alarms would be going off when I got down to only 7,000 primers but they are!

    Texasfivegun,

I am not worthy, but someday I hope to stock up with a setup like yours.  My wife just doesn't get it, she walked by so I showed her the picture of your setup and she just rolled her eyes...

Chad, all right, ya' got me beat a bit in the powder dept.  But I have a question-

Why so many 1lb cans?  Good deal?  Or are those specific powders not sold in 4, 5, or 8 lb canisters?(pictures just fuzzy enough, I can tell the mfg., but not the exact powders in the small bottles)

    And-
How many calibers are you feeding there?

Norsman - The 1 pounders are found local, are used for load testing, for small batches, also me and my partner try to buy "something" for a loading/gun room at every chance. A tool, a pound of powder, a brick of primers, cleaning supplys, targets, and any thing else we can think of. It adds up fast and the $ is not missed $5 to $50 once a month or a couple of times a week.  The multi pound jugs are shiped in as are the cases of 5k primers. The powder and primers we use the most of are shiped in 48 pounds and 20,000 at a time, good prices and no hasmat.

We are loading for about 2 dz cartriges. 17 ACK bee to 500 Linebaugh in handguns, 17 Rem to 45-70 in Rifles, and Shotguns.

Sorry for the fuzzy pic's. My son 11 years old, just pointed out the the camra is set on "micro". I will take new ones soon.
