.223 Ackley data needed.
« on: September 11, 2016, 09:29:52 AM »
I have a gunsmith building me a little custom model 7 in .223 Ackley improved. Its going to have a 1 in 8 twist and be about 22 inches long. I'm going to shoot the heavy 22 cal bullets. Mostly the 75 grain A max Hornady. My quest thus far into finding data for this has been rough. A buddy got me going on this project because he's got one built already. I can't seem to find his powder of choice in my area so I'm hoping to find verified data that uses varget. Mostly because I have a bunch of it. The rifle is going to kick serious butt when I get it nailed together. Its going to sit in the MDT LSS chassis topped with a viper pst 6-24. Any help running down some load data would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

I would start with 23 grains of Varget and work up.  I would use 26.5 grains as a max, or 3050 fps, or high pressure signs, whichever comes first.  If you have a micrometer, measure your case heads too.

Reading here if you haven't seen it.  Ackley Improved is after the 223 information:  http://www.6mmbr.com/223rem.HTML

Thanks a bunch. The data that I could find was all for the little bullets.
