Ahh yes, FEAR, one of my favorite video games. I also loved its precursor, Blood.

There was also a game that preceeded Blood, that was even weirder, and featured many of the same concepts, like armed cult monks, etcc... but had some super mario elements - seriously - with strange power ups like glowing mushrooms. I believe that it also had the first instance of "guns akimbo" in a video game. Wish I could remember what it was called.

I must have played through Blood's campaign at LEAST 4 times. The "hero" of that game was so much fun, and the environments?

Camp Crystal Lake, the train, the Carnival?

Plus the alternate weapon functions were awesome. My favorite were the aerosol cans that doubled as flame throwers/incendiary grenades.

Yeah, the people that worked on that game were truly inspired nut cases, and I mean that in a good way.

Those were absolute joys. That game had some ATMOSPHERE, but it was giddy fun at the same time. I can't think of how many times I realized that the best way to win a fight was to toss in a burning aerosol can and run away. In the Shining level, I'd taken so many hits, and needed health so badly that I finally had to toss cans at the bad guys in the dance hall.

Which is why I laughed so hard when Vin Diesel said in XXX "stop thinking SWAT and think X-Box."
