New Ghost Recon
« on: June 19, 2015, 06:15:41 pm »
I've been fairly unimpressed with the GR franchise since the first GRAW. The original remains an unforgiving classic, but the later ones had too much gadgetry-fixes-everything and stupid setups (the second GRAW featured a daylight fast-rope insertion onto the middle of a bridge with hardened enemy positions on both sides). But this one I might have to check out.

I'll admit, I find it a bit of a wierd coincidence that shortly before The Devil You Don't Know comes out, here's the next Ghost Recon going after Cartels, and the Sicario movie trailer comes out.  Is it all of a sudden a thing to talk about the war in Mexico again?

Not gonna lie, I never liked Ghost Recon, ever. But this game has me very interested, mostly because I not only get to play an open world military shooter, I also get to kill drug cartels. That is always fun.

I really haven't played video games in... five? six years now? Geez, can't believe it's been that long. Anyways, having watched this, I think I might have to pick up a PS4 or XBox One in a few months...

This needs to come out for the MAC.
I loved the first Ghost Recon.  Hated the rest.

Pretty much my take (and I've played all of them, aside from never finishing GRAW 2, thanks to said stupid "fast rope onto a bridge" mission).  I kinda liked Future Soldier, but more as a Battlefield Bad Company-style action game.  It's not Ghost Recon.  The original (and Desert Siege/Island Thunder) is still the one and only.

George... there is a fix for playing on a "MAC"... install windows or regular linux (or use bootcamp I guess).  :neener

But quite a few things are available for them anymore as steam was pushing mac stuff a while back. Check out http://store.steampowered.com/search/?term=&sort_by=_ASC&os=mac&page=1 to see what is available.

    Happy gaming.

    Necrothread!

Ghost Recon: Wildlands is supposed to be released, finally, in a couple of weeks, and the free open beta is available right now on Steam. I played it for about five hours yesterday with my brothers and I'm having a ton of fun with the game. IMO, this is the game I was hoping for with The Division and just didn't get. It basically feels like The Division mixed with Far Cry 4, which makes sense, since they are both Ubisoft games.

I will say that I'm going to wait a bit until people have played the game before I buy it, but only because it is Ubisoft and they disappoint me far more than they impress me. But based on yesterday's play, I'm going to have a blast with Wildlands. Stealing cars, planes, and helos, sneaking and sniping, brute force assaults, a cool storyline, and customizable characters (5.11 must have paid a fortune to get their brand in there so much) and weapons.

All in all, it looks good.  :thumbup1

I got the beta free on Steam yesterday, George. I just checked, and it's still available until tomorrow, the 27th, at 6 AM eastern. There is a $60 pre-order for the whole game, or a $99 for the Gold Edition.

I played again today and finished the beta's content off completely. We played for about eight hours in the last two days to clear a single region out of 21 in total. The game is going to be a big one to run through. No six-hours-and-you're-done this time, unlike with The Division.

Well, looks like the original is still going to be the one and only GR for me, thanks to UPlay.  >:(

I have been playing the BETA on my XB1 and I hope that the vehicle control gets tightened up (flying the helis is very awkward, car physics feel light) and I've experienced some poor collision detection...I ran right through a cow like it wasn't even there for example.  The graphics were subpar but that's par for the course with BETAs.  I'm interested enough to give it a serious look when it releases next week.

Helo and plane control is awkward, especially when you're trying to mow down enemies with the gunships.

Yep.  Can't login, and never get a reset email, either.

Guess they don't need any more of my money, especially considering two Far Crys and the last GR that I can't play anymore.
