WTA Group Buy Opportunity Rat Worx Auto Knife
« on: May 19, 2014, 09:58:07 pm »
Hey Gunners,

Being that WTA members are people of fine discernible taste, I want to throw this out to everybody.  I'm not sure if you guys know about Rat Worx, but they are simply put, one dead sexy automatic knife maker among other things.
Besides the great looks of their knives, the biggest thing is that they're a chain driven auto. If you want a superbly engineered knife that's made in the USA with a lifetime warranty, you're going to pay for it. The normal price for these are in the $325 range. I've got an in that would get us a steep discount. The actual amount will depend on how many knives we might be interested in. So, this is a feeler to get an idea of who might be wanting to add one of these pieces of art to their collection.

Take a look at their website, and let me know. http://www.ratworxusa.com/?q=catalog/8

Here's a YouTube link to see the action:

Thanks,
Paul

Interesting, but I'm having a hard time getting excited about it at those prices.

Interesting - what happens if that nice exposed chain gets fouled by a garment? Will it hang up and prevent pulling from a pocket, or must it be carried in a sheath?

Forgive my ignorance, but I thought auto knives were illegal for lowly civilians (  :vomit ) to own?

In Pennsylvania, yes.  Or at least for all practical purposes, they are.

Yep depends on the state, Michigan from memory is legal for LEO/MIL on duty and one armed men/women and that's it. From memory you can own but not carry them much like double edged knives etc here. But it does depend on the state and their rules, as well as local ordinance since most states don't have preemption for knives, only CPL's etc.

AZ does have knife preemption,  :cool and oddly enough, I remember "switchblades" being illegal here...apparently that law went bye bye when I wasn't looking. :eh At the price I can't see how it would be better than my Benchmade Resistor for nay practical use, especially at that price. It's a nice knife.

Legality is dependent on your state. Indiana, where I'm from, started allowing them again last July. It's amazing how many people found long lost automatics this past year.

I'm looking into the discount price and will let everybody know as soon as I know more. The price of a good auto is like spending money on other quality items. I myself have a hard time throwing down more than $100 on a knife, but I want to make an investment in a quality auto. Benchmade, Protech, Microtech, etc all cost more than a normal folder or assisted. Usually in the $2-300 range. If I can get the Rat Worx knives down to those prices, then I'd jump on them. They're just unique, tank tough, and will last a lifetime.

If I can get an idea of how many people are interested, it will help w/ pricing.

Sure, why not. They're legal in AK, and everyone's going Benchmade. It'll help stand out of the crowd.

I should have our pricing by this weekend. I'll keep everyone updated. It will be the same price for any model. Rat Worx is gearing up for the Blade Show, so I'll have to see what is available and/or the ETA on certain models. But, start getting an idea of which ones you'd like.

Looks like if we can get 10 or more knives, our price is $275. That's $100 off.

That's only $50 off the models aside from the bronze models.  Good discount but not $100.  Still good knives but I'm going to have to think on it.  Not quite low enough to ensure I'll jump on it

That'd be a nice conversation piece, nice thing to have for it's "Uniqueness Factor," but when you consider that I can get a good quality auto opening/auto assist knife at about 1/8th the cost, from a better known manufacturer, I'm gonna have to say, "That's a pass."

I wouldn't go that far.  Its still one of the best built auto knives.  Its tempting.  Especially as decent auto knives start at $150

I mis-typed, Harm. I meant to put $50-100 off.  :facepalm

And I agree, it's still a lot of money. But, I'm wanting to invest in one auto that's going to last a lifetime, and have a really unique look.

Sorry for the delay. Rat Worx was at the Blade Show over the weekend. I'm hoping to get more info soon.

I looked at them at Blade... They are nice, but thicker through the handle than is my preference.  That said, they are incredibly smooth.  They open fast too.  Smooth and Fast.  The blades are wicked sharp and overall feels strong.  I liked them, but they are not my cup of tea.
