    That's pretty cool.

I'd like to see her do it under a simulated combat situation.  Get some guys in padded Orc suits or something.   :P

Not to denigrate her skill, but I'd like to see it done at distance where her accuracy can be better judged and with a bow that pulls more than 10lbs.

That WOULD be pretty cool. lol

Well, I wasn't always sure one could fire that quickly. But as long as one remains level headed and focused, it apparently is. Curious if Orlando Bloom actually learned to shoot like that or if it was all CGI. I understand he couldn't actually shoot the stuntmen but perhaps in practice he was actually able to pull it off.

But I'm sure the answer is somewhere in the many hours of extra features on the DVD's (which I've never watched).

Yes, I can see one tiring much more quickly (and accuracy suffering because of it) due to a heavier draw.

I see a good rate of fire there... But with no power or accuracy.  Of course, this exercise is all about the ROF... which is cool.  And she's cute too.  So Yeah, thumbs up.

+1. It'd be good for defense of a hallway or entrance way, somewhere that would serve as a hell hole / focal point for the arrows. Impressive in any event. I need to show this to my youngest daughter.

A couple of points noted:  1) You cannot even approach that type of speed unless you are using a Mongolian style thumb

release and a recurve type bow   2) She has excellent muscle memory which would translate pretty well into a heavier bow

and arrow with a little practice.

I imagine that bow pulls in the 15 - 20  pound range and the arrows are lightly spined.  I think if she could be coached to use her back muscles a bit more on the draw and refine her set and release she could be deadly out to 50 yards without sacrificing much in the way of speed.  She will gain some strength as she matures and if she can pull that trick off with a 40 pound bow she will have become the real life Gwynnevere that Keira Knightly played in the move "King Arthur".

^^^^^ Pretty much sums it up.  In a truly defensive position, if she had cover, I'd hate to be the one that had to go after her.  Note to her future husband-  If you come home late, and she's on the porch with a bow, a quiver of arrows, and a killing look?  Best drive on by, whatever you have in the house ain't worth your life.

I find this very interesting from this standpoint alone, no sexist slant intended.  Just facts:  As a general rule, men are much stronger in the upper body than women, yet this young lady has chosen to charge on in anyway.  Good for her.  With some coaching, and some strength training, I'm thinking she might come very close indeed to the speed she demonstrates in the video clip with a 40 pound bow.
This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty. . . . The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction- St. George Tucker, Blackstone's Commentaries

Agreed.  I don't know if someone specifically set up her equipment for her or whether the whole thing was just some happy accident but it is a joy to watch anyone ( especially a young person ) completely in tune with their chosen discipline.

How the hell did I know she'd be Russian before pressing play?  (No, I didn't notice the hyperlink that says "Murmansk" until afterward.)

Eh. Nothing wrong with short range speed drills in combination with other training. Any good training is good training, and not a bad thing. I'd agree that variety is the spice of life, but I wouldn't knock anyone that could put that many arrows on target at that rate of speed.

Not unless I had a bloody good shield anyways.

Even in the video, she's doing standing speed drill and lateral moving speed drills.  Adding distance and/or heavier bows is just progression.

I was very impressed by her consistent accuracy. There was a fist sized hole where she's been hitting the same area in the center rug and this was at approx 10m.....very impressive. Most pistol shooters can't hit with that regularity at the same speed she was shooting especially while moving like she was. Outstanding work, I hope she keeps it up.

My kids and I shoot recurves a lot and I appreciated her skill, especially on the move. I'm going to try that Mongolian draw just for fun. I've always wanted one if those curved horse bows too. I've been looking at them for years in the Three Rivers catalog.

The youtube channel has a bunch more videos of this chick and other folks doing trick archery, some theater style performances and what I think is some LARRPing.

From some of the other vids they all have better accuracy than I do with a bow, I sure wouldn't want to get shot at by them.

Its also interesting that none of them are wearing wrist guards on their bow arm.

The wrist guards are not generally necessary for a person with normal sized forearms using her technique and equipment.

How could you tell she was Russian? That is obviously a soviet bloc gymnasium, most likely in a local grade school. When I was in Russia i knew some folks who practiced medevil fighting techniques... About got my arm broken with a practice sword. I probably deserved it. But it was a Russian girl on the other end of that practice sword.

Plus it's nice to see the bow getting some love on here. I always was a fan of a good recurve.

If you're referring to my post, it was part vibe and part guess.  There are some confirming clues in the Youtube page of the video as well.

    Lucky, you've been to Russia.
