New Knife - Kershaw/Emerson CQC 6K
« on: April 27, 2017, 04:06:20 PM »
I got a new knife, one that I found on Amazon for 20 bucks. It must have been a sale, because it certainly doesn't feel like a 20 dollar knife.

It has the Emerson "Wave", which is the little hook on the spine of the blade which allows it to be deployed by hooking it on the edge of the pocket as you draw it.  It also has a disc on the spine, perpendicular to the blade if you want to open it with your thumb.

The blade locks open with a blade that snaps into place inside the balde channel, instead of a button on the spine of the handle, or some other device.

This knife is a smart design, but it is not fancy in any way. You can see multiple grind patterns on the blade, and the other exposed metal is smooth, but a flat gray color. There is a deep cutout for your index finger, I guess to keep the knife from slipping while stabbing. It has a textured grip panel, but only one side. The side with the pocket clip is smooth, presumably so it doesn't shred your pants between the body of the knife and the clip. The clip itself seems to be really stiff. I assume it is steel, it is also wider than clips I have had on previous knives. My guess is this helps it resist bending out of shape if it gets snagged on something.

It is bigger than my last knife, the grip seems to fill my hand well. It feels really heavy and solid when opened, there must be a lot of metal in it. In the package, there are 3 replacement screws for the clip but hopefully the clip will just stay put.

It is of course very sharp from the factory.

Here are some photos.

I have one too and love it.  Kershaw is one of my favorite knife companies because you can get Emerson, Hinderer, and Les George designed knives for super cheap.  Plus they are covered by a lifetime warranty, I've sent have my Kershaw knives in for free sharpening and maintenance.  And I don't have to worry about them if I use them and break them or loose them, easy to replace.

Les George is one of my best friends in the world, he's good people. That's a very good price as well

I have the 4kxl, the 5k and the 6k. I think it is my 6k that has the texture grip on both sides of the blade. The 4kxl I don't carry often it is just a big folder for everyday carry. But the other 2 are on my regular carry list depending on what I am doing that day. All three knives work great and feel good.
