New Knife Friday!
« on: April 29, 2016, 11:26:38 AM »
I just made that up, but hey, I like it.

Saw this on GPKnives Facebook feed and living 15 minutes from their shop I had to have it. ZT0620 with custom scales. I've become a big fan of flippers but this is my first Wave knife. Digging it so far. It's fast.

They had one with orange scales too, looked good but I just know they'd get dirty and look like crap pretty fast. At least for me, I actually use my knives.

The blade design appealed to me. Tanto, but with a slight sweep. I'm not a huge tanto fan but this seems very functional.

Some people have complained about ZT's edge but this came extremely sharp out of the box. This is my first foray into Elmax steel so we'll see how well it sharpens when the time comes. I've heard good things.

So far I'm impressed. Good feel, good blade, and looks good too. Definitely going into the EDC rotation.

I'm not saying you should use an M1A for home defense, but I'm also not saying you shouldn't.

I like it.  Within a couple of years of use and sharpening my tanto's tend to start to have a curve to them anyway, and they are more useable.

Here is my knew "knife".  Well, getting there.  I roughed it out last night.  My first DIY knife:

This weekend I will start the grind.  Flat grind with a ricasso that angles forward from bottom to top.  Steel is O1.  I plan to put walnut handles on it, with a parkerize/cerakote finish.

Cool! I look forward to seeing the finished product!  :thumbup1

But I think I would recommend thinning the tang a little, unless you're putting really thin grips on it (or you have really big hands, dude...)

Tang will be thinned.  I still have to re-true all the edges from the rough grind, and the tang is the worst offender.  It will lose about 1/8" all the way around.  At that point I will make some "throw away" grip scales and see how it feels.

Good eye though.  Thanks for the input.

    No problem.

I just cut a hunk of bubinga up for knife scales. Want some?
