I suggest having her watch the FPSRussia video... If she's fine with the language. ;)

I like the fox labs stuff as well back when Sarah didn't have a carry permit and was working nights that's what I gave her to carry we also got the trainer to test.

Thanks, guys. Ordered a canister of Fox Labs Fog Cloud tonight. Unfortunately, it won't get here to after Christmas. Oh well.  :shrug

The fog/stream debate is a double edged sword. It PROBABLY won't matter one iota, because if she is using it she won't have time to prepare or think about it, she'll just do it and deal with the consequences. But when you talk about using it with her, think about this:

Streams are less prone to being pushed around by the wind. if you spray it into the wind, you WILL get some backsplatter at you. The disadvantage is that sprays need to hit the facial area to be most effective. Fogs are a LOT more likely to be pushed around by the wind, and you will get a LOT more back at you if you are downwind of your target. The plus side is taht you can be a lot less precise in your aim, and also if he inhales the stuff- yeah. It's wicked.

You really should order another can or two. One for carry and one or more to go play with. She shoudl practice accessing it, indexing it, spraying it and seeing how much of it gets on her when she does it, so she knows what to expect.

You also don't have a hair on your butt if you don't let her hose you down with it . ;)

Whoops! Thanks Coronach, hadn't considered the wind factor. Cancelled the order, I'll order the stream model tomorrow (it's just about 1 AM local time)

I'll talk to her about practicing with it, but knowing her, I doubt that'll happen.

I'm not saying not to use the fogger vs the stream. Just know that each has its pros and cons. One is easier to aim but can get on you more easily. The other is more "discrete", but requires better aim. Pick your poison.

I think I would rather have the stream so it can be hosed right into the guy's eyes, nose, what have you.

But yeah, your mom should expect to get a little hosed herself. Just have her practice spraying and then boogie when the guy goes down. You don't to wait for him to regain his senses.

I cancelled the order.

Kinda forgot that Mom's an asthmatic (  :doh  :facepalm ) so pepper spray probably isn't the best idea. I'll talk with her about the risk of her getting hit with it when she uses it, and we'll see how it goes from there.

If she's a asthmatic I wouldn't give her chemical agents. The risk of over spray and cross contamination is pretty high. I'd say less so with a stream version but still.

Definitely not a good idea if she is asthmatic.  Last time someone sprayed someone at my work I had to go around and give inhalers to everyone of the "clients" even if they were in a different Pod.

The civilian version of the Taser "C2" is a good unit.  BUT it is very tightly regulated, in some states you actually have to have a CCW to get one.
Yes I live in California.  Please dont hold that against me.

The shop I work in recommends(from actual use) a pepper spray called "The Disabler". It is 15 percent OC and is a derivative of  a 4 million SHU rating 10-13.. The maker claims it will put an assailant down for up to 45 minutes. It does have a UV dye in it also. The shop owner used a large can on a group of folks  and it took them down nicely and for a long time.

Talked to Mama Raptor about it, and turns out she wants the pepper spray after all, since she "carried it for years and years and never had a problem" (nevermind the fact that she never actually used it), which is both good and bad. Good because I tried to cancel the order after the unit had already shipped (that's what happens when you pull the 2-10:30 shift two days in a row), bad because the unit is a lot larger than I'd thought it would be. Which wouldn't be a problem if Mama Raptor still carried her TARDIS-derived handbag, but she's switched over to a very tiny purse. No way it'll fit inside. So I guess I'll hang onto the 3-oz unit and order her a keychain-sized one instead...

Have her keep the larger unit in her car, but watch it on hot days. When you get sustained temps above 100 you CAN have leaks.

That said, I keep about a dozen cans in the trunk of my cruiser 365 days a year and never had any issues.

I've kept a lot of large OC canisters in my trunk in the AZ heat. I've never had an incident.

I've got to look at sizes but our canisters  issued to patrol are 4.4 oz. I'm not sure what the canister size detectives are issued but its about half the height so I'd guess about 2 oz. I'd go with that size rather then a small keychain size.
