closest we can come is a Red Robin about 60 miles north, but it is co-located with the new movie complex, so it's quite convenient.   and I love their seasoning for the fries.  You can buy a large bottle for $3.00.

Okay, I'm going to the HAG whenever I get near that place.
    Single Bypass though...

And the Blazing Onion looks amazing.  You can get Buffalo there.   :bowdown

Why do the feminists and PC Nazis always have to try and shut down everything fun?

And I'm only staying away from the Heart Attack Grill because simply looking at one of those burgers is enough to make my reflux start acting up.

T, how exactly is Five Guys obnoxious? I've been to the one near my house a lot, and it never came across that way to me.

The music is blaring and the staff is always shouting.  If Google is to be believed it is apparently a common complaint.  Further research indicates however that some locations defy company SOP and actually turn it down a truckload of notches.  The one near my work hasn't figured that out yet though I guess.  I won't go in there anymore.

The burgers are good though.  Just not good enough to tolerate the experience of trying to buy one.  :shrug

Isn't there a Smashburger off the 101 and I-10? I think I have had one, its good but the fry's were better.

Yes.  99th and McDowell.  It's the one I go to.

Guess the one near me defies company policy: I can't ever remember blaring music (or any music at all for that matter) and the only time the staff shouts is when it's the dinner rush on Friday night and you can't hear yourself think over the crowd noise.

Not so sure it's "policy" per se.  It's just how the opening crew teaches the new crew how to do it I think.  From what I gather even the regular crew gets tired of it eventually.  The one near my work in only a few months old.

Another good burger joint is Fat Burger.  The one in Vegas is open 24x7x365.  Nothing like a Fat Burger at 4am.  :D

Fat Burger is pretty good.  We were at one a few weeks ago.  My wife had some monsterous concoction that included bacon and onion rings.  It actually tasted fantastic.  What I really liked was that it was very kid friendly.  I'll definately go again.  My only complaint was that it was a little expensive for a burger joint.  $25 for two burgers, fries, and drinks.

What's funny is that so many Americans have a thing that Foreign is Better.  Especially if it's French or Italian or some 3rd world tribal thing... Yet in all those places, Sex is an every day everywhere kinda thing.  America as a whole is very prudish in comparison.  Even to Mexico... Mexico is a great deal more sexualized.  Public TV is more like our Cable after 10 PM.

George speaks the truth. When I was in Europe, mainly in Italy but in other countries too, there were ad posters out in public (train station, bus stations, on the street) that would have been regulated to the Victoria's Secret Catalog or "Gentlemens' Magazines" over here.

Oh, that reminds me: remember how the Smart Car's main selling point is that it's "wildly popular over in Europe?" Guess what: it isn't. Sobcompacts and "Superminis" like the Honda Fit, Peugeot 207, and Skoda Fabia are huge over there, but the Smart?  Aside from the Roadster (yes, Smart made a Roadster), I barely saw any in 3 months.

On-Topic. No Smashburger, Fatburger, or Heart Attack Grill near me.  :'( There actually is a diner in Ocean City, New Jersey called The Chatterbox that makes a pretty decent burger, on the off chance that anyone besides me ever goes to OCNJ.

Honestly, the best burger joint I have near me is my house.  Like BK's mantra, I can have it my way, goddamn it!

As much as I like the concept of grilling, I go for the pan-fry.  Not only does the bacon grease stay there, the clean up is less of a PITA.

In Wetter Western Washington, I suggest
Frisko Freeze is right across the street from Tacoma General, so you are all set for a cardiac event.  Drive through and walk up only.  After decades they opened a couple of branch locations, but I think they are back to just the original location.

Norma's Burger just off I-5 in Nisqually.  Great burgers, and lots of John Wayne memorabilia.  Located across the river from Olympic Arms factory, near Frank's Landing where Marlin Brando posed in a canoe during the fishing war, not far from where the Medicine Creek Treaty was signed, centrally sited between the truck scale and a State Patrol speed trap turn around.  Not far from Cabella's, either.

Now I am hungry.  Maybe I will take the kids to Norma's this weekend.

    Western Washington

Another vote for the Flaming Onion chain of burgers.  I have eaten at two of them - both in the greater Seattle area.

Five Guys serves a good burger - ate at a couple of them.

There is a tavern out on Whidbey Island that serves a great burger - I will try and remember the name.....

    Eastern Washington

In Chelan there is a small burger place right on the water - right on the main street that goes around the lake.

    In Utah

Crown, Apollo and the like are some of the best burgers there is.....don't know why fry sauce hasn't caught on with the rest of the world - seems to be a Utah phenominon.

    Illinois

Jury's in Chicago serves up a great burger and fries.

    Atlanta

Blue Ribbon grill has good burgers - and bison burgers too.

Most places outside the US have horrible attempts at making a good burger - with one glaring exception - "Jumbo Burger" in Istanbul, Turkey.  One of the BEST burgers I have ever eaten - and fantastic fries.  It has been there since the 1950's - the owner lived in the US for a number of years before going back and starting up a REAL burger place.

Making me hungry as I am typing this!!!

    cheers

How dedicated am I to burgers?

They were practically all I ate on a three week trip across the country back in '07. I got more than my ration of s___ over it by my overcontrolling grandmother (I was 19 at the time, but I couldn't make my own food choices? Give me a break)...but I had some glorious burgers. Unfortunately, I can't remember the names of most of the places.

That was also the trip where I discovered the glorious In N Out chain. God, I could kill for a sack full of their doubles and some fries. Very reasonable prices, too.

I tend to prefer to grill my own. Charcoal grilling rules, but when I come home from work and am dead tired, the gas grill rules for quick and easy, plus quick and easy cleanup. Take a pound of good hamburger meat. Add 1 egg. Add some hot sauce (I use Texas pete) and some Worcestershire sauce, plus some pepper. Fire up the grill...I heat mine up to a medium heat, about 350 or so. When the grill is good and warm, throw the burgers on and close the lid. Wait 5 minutes. Flip and close the lid. 5 more minutes. Throw some cheese on it and toast your bread or buns on the grill. and pull everything off. Bam, those are some good burgers.

I also take my grill to work during the nicer months and grill burgers, dogs, steaks whatever for lunch.

There is a small shop in Fall City (East King County) that cranks out a very good product. The sign on the door says "If you are offended by grease, salt or ketchup, take your business elsewhere".

    I go once a month.

Avenger, In-N-Out seems to be one of the "better" burger chains here in the PRK.  I don't care if we're talking about the restaurant north of LA in the grapeving, or the one in Morgan Hill where I got dinner after getting my new gun (FTMFW!), they're always full of people.

I always get a real ice cream shake, double double, and fries when I go.
