A Thank You to George.
« on: December 13, 2011, 11:09:31 PM »
Those that follow George's blog may have seen that he had Caryn and I out his way for an afternoon of fun, shooting, food, laughter and camaraderie with both Zach and him. http://madogre.com/?p=2112
The company I work for is headquartered in Denver Co, and flew Caryn and myself out there for the Christmas party last week.
George saw that we were going to be in Denver and suggested that we continue west into his neck of the woods.
I hit Zach up and checked to see if he would be around also... luckily he was.
I requested an extra day out before flying back, and my boss approved it.
We ducked out of the Christmas party early, 4 hours of it was PLENTY for me... even if we didnt have some place we would rather be.
Went to our motel, changed clothes, loaded up the rental and headed west.
Spent the evening in Rifle, I will have to admit... Joe writing about it in Uprising Crusader made it an attractive midway stopping point.
Headed out Saturday morning and made it to Basin around 11:30.
We met Fenris, ammoed up and headed to The Ogres Playland.
GREAT shooting range, had fun throwing lead downrange.
A nice drive out to The Pelican Lake Cafe and an amazing lunch. Here is a previous write up http://madogre.com/?p=1712
We all got the fun of watching George destroy a pound and a half burger and watch Zach season his fries.  ;)
While it felt like a few minutes, we probably talked and laughed there for a couple of hours.
While it was the first time we had actually met, Zach and George felt like old friends... potentially the benefit of reading and talking online.
It could also be that they are just great people, I am betting on the latter.
It was with heavy hearts that we said our good byes and parted ways.
The drive out and back was beautiful, It was Caryns first time in Colorado or Utah.
I get to those states every now and then, but dont get to do much sightseeing.
We saw herds of mule deer and Elk... the occasional P Dog, lots of feathered creatures...
And had a nice relaxing drive thru the mountains.

The Christmas party and running around Colorado was OK, but what went on after we pulled out for Utah was what made the trip memorable.
A beautiful drive with someone that you love, and time spent with friends... THAT is my Christmas present this year.
Caryn loved it and is going to make plans for a better planed out trip with more time.
She loves the fact that I actually enjoy taking her to new places, and wants to see more of Utah.
Here are some pictures, mostly stolen from George... I was having a great time and forgot all about taking any.

And the burger that put up a fight.

Zach, George... my hat is off to both of you.
Many thanks from Caryn and myself.

Hey those places look familiar! By the looks of the attire though, I think I'll stick to making those visits in the summer.

Jesse, I think it was upper 20s that day.
    Honestly not bad at all.
It was more comfortable than the upper 30s lower 40s in Philly when we got off of the plane the next afternoon.

I see one(or don't see rather) one problem with your pics.  Someone has to get photo evidence of Zach with a levergun in hand...... ;)

Glad you enjoyed our neck of the woods.

This may be considered as the true palladium of liberty. . . . The right of self defence is the first law of nature: in most governments it has been the study of rulers to confine this right within the narrowest limits possible. Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction- St. George Tucker, Blackstone's Commentaries

Very careless leaving loaded weapons laying on the table like that. Thought you guys would know better. Someone could get hurt.

I mean really, that burger could kill somebody. :D

if I'm not mistaken, George got a shot with Zac behind the trigger of the 45-70. I am pretty sure he was the first to fire it that day.

+1 good times!  Looks like you guys had a great time.  Too bad you didn't have the time to hunt prairie ghouls.  45-70 vs ghoul. Oh boy! :clap

I've been on the hunt for a monster burger like that after watching Man v. Food.

Any WTA members in the Southeast know of a good monster burger place?

Looks like a good time was had by all.  Makes me think that maybe we should start thinking about an International WTA meet someday.  I'd be willing to come down, time and $$ permitting, and see what Uncle Sam will let me bring along... ;)
