I'm tired of FrontPage, FTP, WYSIWYG, Notepad, and the pain in the buttocks it is to update MadOgre.com now.  The site is too large and unwieldy. 

So I'm going to blow it up.

The Old Site will remain as it is now.  All the old links will work and such.   But the new Blogging will be done on some new software system pretty much like what everyone else is using.
A part of me feels like I'm giving in... Then again, another part of me feels like "Its about dang time".

So, for good or ill... It's going to change soon.  This will be, I think, MadOgre.com 3.0 4.0.

 

I don't know anything about blogging.  I'm not going to start a blog.  It's not that I'm not narcissistic enough to run a blog, but I'm lazy and people would quickly grow tired of my blogging.  It wouldn't be much better than my Facebook page.

That's some profound s___ right there.

However, I read a bunch of other people's blogs, and MadOgre.com is rather dated.  It's badass that you were blogging back before it was called blogging (back, you know, before the internet had destroyed the English language).  You had a web log when most people were screwing around with Geocities.

But still, the page layout is, like, so '90s.  It's definitely time for an update to more flexible software.  You need something that works with your Facebook page, allows people to directly link to posts, allows you to easily embed hyperlinks in text, upload pictures, and put up links.

I recommend a wordpress site.  That's what I've used for ObamaisDumb.com.  I haven't touched the site in over a year.  It was too frustrating to write about Obama.

I've been messing with Wordpress and Tumblr.  I've been using WP longer.  They are both pretty easy to use, but WP seems to show up better in search engines.

I'd also say this would be a good time to dump your current webhost and get a new one.  Also, please tell me you are not using a wordpress site hosted with wordpress.  That'd be a big no-no.

Yes.  It is bad.  You then lose some control.  You cannot do paid advertising on your site.  If Wordpress finds some of your info offensive or unacceptable, they can limit your use.  They could shut you down.  You're also limited on what you can do with modifications on your site.If you host your own wordpress site, you can do whatever you want.

Any good hosting services you can recommend Steve? My sister has a Blog she ended up having hosted, but I don't know who it is. Have to ask her about that. Just like you mentioned, having control of her content was a main concern.

Thanks.  It's been over a week and I'm still getting used to the new system... but I'm digging it. 
As soon as I get a new Laptop, I'll be able to make some better changes.
Photo Editing and Video Editing for more content.  Any time I post a video on YouTube, I'll be able to post it on MadOgre.com.  I could do that before, but it made for slower page loads, which isn't a problem with the new system.
