Kimber warrior/desert warrior. Would probably have to go used at that price.

S&W M&P 9mm fullsize with APEX parts and a set of Warren 2 dot night sights. Spend the rest of the money on holster, mags, ammo.

Seattle-manufactured Detonics Combat Master, preferably a Mk. VI w/ Pachmayr grips & backstrap. If I have any money left over, (Seattle-made Combat Masters are going for $800-$950 on GB) I'll buy some extra mags and possibly a holster rig from Adams Holsters.

Buy my Sig Blackwater 1911 back. Or maybe hunt down a used Dan Wesson Heritage.

At the current exchange rate, with my 10% local club membership discount, $1000 is just enough to buy a Taurus Long Barrelled Revolver and a 50 round box of .38 practice ammo.

That's handy, because that's the only pistol I can legally own.

Interesting choice.  Don't know much about them.  Just checked one out.  Can't figure out why the rear sight is 2 inches forward from where I'm used to seeing it... :hmm

Keep the options coming!  I'm still waiting for someone to say buy a glock and invest the rest in accessories... :hide

My local dealer has a beautiful NIB S&W 25-2. Comes with the box, presentation case and even the original shipping box. And he wants exactly $1000 for it.

Hmm, nothing I want seems to be around $1000. The only sub-$1k pistol I'm interested in is the Glock 34, so I'd have plenty of scratch to buy a pile of mags too, but I'd rather buy a bobtail commander in 10mm instead. Maybe I could find one used for $1k but I doubt it.

Anyway there's not much need to speculate what I would buy, since I just picked up a S&W 686+ 2.5" yesterday, and spent just about the balance of $1000 on a Simply Rugged pancake holster, some speedloaders, and 200 rounds each of 357 Magnum and 38 Special.

    Yes to .41 Magnums!

    My choice?  A 4" Model 65 in .357, and a 3" Model 65 in .357.

Or a Model 58 in Nickel.

Yep, me too. I bought another Ruger 10/22 and the S&W yesterday, and other than the Crusader Sterling in the works, those are the last guns I'm buying for a looong time. I've got maybe $500 left to spend on peripherals--a couple sets of dies, new barrel for the Glock 20, some magazines--but after that I'll have an ammo (reloading component anyway) budget each month and that's it. Any gun related stuff I sell goes into the gun budget, though. I've got a couple guns to sell that I'd like to turn into a gun safe or a progressive reloading setup.

I'm sure this will only be temporary (5-6 years, until I'm done with grad school and well established); I'm only 25 after all.

When these were brought out, they were for deep concealment or back up carry.
They were also intended to be carried with a round chambered and the hammer down.
Thats why the hammer sticks up a bit higher than normal.
Intended use had you drawing with your strong hand and fanning the hammer back with your weak hand.

^^^ That, or I've read that the design was also intended to facilitate greater ease of cocking the hammer with your strong hand's thumb. They were also made back before carrying Condition 1 had become the norm.

Personally, I just want a Combat Master because I think they look cool.

A stainless Ruger Bisley Vaquero and would probably spend the change on a good leather rig and some ammo.
