So while looking for parts for a 1911 build, I came across a guy selling a fully assembled witness .45 frame.  He's letting it go for cheap too.

I check my criteria for buying a gun...

1. Is it a caliber I shoot/reload for?  Check
2.  Do I own another gun that can share magazines? Check

So I tell him to hold it for me until I get back from spring break.   I've contacted EAA about slide parts.  I have two options here.

First option, order a complete LONGSLIDE from EAA or an EAA dealer and pay Huh? amount of money (EAA wont quote me a price until I have the serial number for the frame).  I'm thinking either 6" or 7" longslide.  That would be fun.

Second option, and more probably since it is cheaper, is to go ahead and purchase the parts for the slide form Numrich.  They've got all the parts I need to put one together, but the standard size for the 4.5" barrel.

While I am in Galveston working at the hospital this next week, I'll have plenty of time to think about it.  In the mean time, what do you guys think?

Too much like the CZ-97 you already have (which will probably forever remain a better gun).

Keep moving forward on the 1911 build.

I'll build a 1911 one day.  I like the Witness project more, though.  I already know how to 'smith that line of pistols.

Plus, the mags.

Keep in mind that you don't necessarily have to go with a .45 slide.  The large frames will take many other calibers.   What about 10mm?

That doesn't fit with criteria 1.  And yes, that's another reason I like the witness idea.  I can always expand upon it at a later date.

And the mags.

I think I have a problem...

That's exactly what I was thinking of when I wrote my last post.

The 1911 would require learning something new.

I like the Witness.  You're young and there will always be time to build a 1911.

Mitchell's got a point.

I'm sure I will build a 1911 one day.  1911 parts will always be around, but this deal wont be. I figure I had better jump on it while the jumping is good.

Just do it.  If you let it slip...that's where the regrets come in.

Just how good a deal are we talking on the Witness? Brand new complete ones sell under $400.

250 for the entire frame.  And I'm looking into making it into a long slide. If the price is right, that is.

Well, the witness idea has been scratched.  I called up Ghost holster today and asked about parts interchangeability with the CZ line of pistols. Seems like there is non.

Drat.

So I'm going to go ahead with the 1911 build now.

Hmm.  That's odd since it is a clone... though, for holsters I know the trigger guard is slightly different.

Richard over at Ghost Holster said while it is a clone, it's specs for the parts are slightly off.  So while looking the same, internally the dimensions are off.

Oh well.  I should build American anyway.

Go with the 6"... There are some issues with reliability in the 7" unless you are going quite hot in the ammo department.

Where do you find a 7"?
