A while back, I posted this review of a Promag magazine for my Sig P6. Long story short, I was disappointed with the performance, and glad I only bought one magazine. However, I can't afford enough $50 magazines from Sig, so I thought about using Slipstream.

When I found the magazine, stuffed into a range bag, fully loaded for an unknown period of time, I unloaded it. The follower stuck with 2 rounds left, and one of the cartridges just fell out. Slap the magazine and the follower popped up into place.

I stripped the magazine down and applied some of the Slipstream Oil to all sides of the follower except the top, the surface which contacts the ammo. I then re-assembled the mag and worked the spring with a pencil, up and down maybe 20 times to spread the Slipstream around the follower and the inside of the magazine body. Then I let it sit for a few days, loading and unloading it periodically. I didn't encounter the sticking follower problem again.

Today I took it to the local shootin gallery and put 100rds of 9mm through that magazine. Zero failures. The slide didn't lock back before the mag was empty like it had before. When I changed my grip, it locked the slide back properly (my normal grip tends to hold the mag catch down, so the slide often fails to lock back- this is purely my fault, not the mag or gun).

I got a lot of feedback on that initial review that Promag was known to be junk, and no one was surprised I had a bad experience with them. Now, thanks to Slipstream, I can buy cheap magazines in bulk for my favorite carry pistol.

Thanks, Slipstream!

It is strange what problems SlipStream can fix.  Use your imagination!   I'm just glad you like it!

It fixed a PROMAG?
Dang.
That's strong.  If it can unFUBAR a ProMag... which is made from FUBAR... Dang... that's hard core awesome.

I think it just lets that crappy follower move without binding up when it tilts.

I saw that you mentioned that a proper SIG mag will run you 50 bones.

Why does something [which I assume to be mass-produced] cost that much?  I understand that they'd be cheaper if they were mil-surp or something, but $50 looks like too much for such a simple contraption.

I dunno. I know MecGar, which manufactures Sig's "factory" mags, doesn't list a P225 mag. Might mean they aren't making the P225 mags. Also, the P225 is no longer in production. They probably don't sell many of them, but they brought out the design and tooling to make them again, which drives up costs.

That's awesome that it helped your Promag.  I hate those things.  I bought 2 of them when I had a SIG P229.  After less than 50 rounds through each mag, the magazines would FALL OUT of the gun after the first shot.  Yeah.  The metal was so weak, the hole that the mag release fits in bent.  After less than 50 rounds?    Seriously, I would load the mag, and it would fall to the ground after the first shot.  If I was lucky it would only pop out a little, but enough to keep it from feeding the next round.   cussing

Back on topic.  SlipStream is great stuff.  Nice to see that it works on so many things.  Even junk.

Actually, my favorite part of the Promag is the magazine body. It's well marked and looks to be well built. The follower is trash, but the Slipstream fixed that. I don't like the plastic floor plate, because it doesn't look as good as the flush fit metal one on the factory mags, but it works.

Well, it also depends on 'da Promag.

Hate most of them, but the 20 rounder they make for a Mini-14 is in my opinion, every bit the quality of a Ruger Factory.    30's are pretty good, and 40's are so-so.

It's ironic they make one good model.    Their thermold ones are junk, and I tried a 1911 mag and it was junk....

I might hafta try slipstream on the 1911 see if it works!!!

Well all my pistols themselves are lubed up with Slipstream! All my semi-auto's. Except for my AR15, I'm using remoil *Cringes from expected outcries of everyone), but that's just because I plan on keeping it wet and this summer it'll be riding around dirty enough I'll clean it once a week...slipstream oil's too expensive for new application every week.

I was meaning a very cra*** Promag 1911 mag.    I dunno why though...My 1911 hasn't had a round fired in months.,...I was gonna again, then my Sig 220 pushed it aside......

You won't need to slipstream a weapon every week.  the stuff stays on for a long time.  Try it out.

Dude... Slipstream that AR.  Your reaction will be that you should have done that one first.  Your AR is going to feel better than a full house custom built gun.

Better believe it. I had to retrain myself on the trigger reset. Took me a few accidental double taps to get it down though.

Shouldn't the oil be cleaned off semi-regular? I mean considering the very likely huge amounts of dirt/dust that will be getting in the action?

Last summer I carried my Sig 226 all summer, and in the end, twice a week I took the slide off, smacked it and the surface would be covered in dirt/dust and small chunks (Once a friggin 1/4" pebble came from somewhere)  Never affected function, but I think it was good to remove all that dirt.

What were you doing to that poor pistol. I've never had a quarter of that kind of crap in my gun and I live in the high desert. If you're getting that much simply attracted into the action you are putting about a gallon too much oil on.

Well....I just...always carry it.   Only very lightly lubed it.

I just carried it.  Somerfallowing, haying, whatever.    If the swather got plugged, it was usually still on me when I crawl into the header to unplug it, it's on when I change shovels on a duckfoot,etc.etc.     Plus, everything kicks up, or is in solid dust.  Plus the few times it rode in the side-pocket of an outfit and battered up and down for a few hours.

About the only time I took it off was when I was specifically on the cement shop floor doing maintenance and I didn't want to get it oily or really scratched up.

It held up.  I give Sig high marks for that.

That said, I think I'm gonna carry my Armscor 1911 more next year.  Put wear and tear on a true beater gun rather than something I really like.

Okay, yeah under those circumstances I'd clean it about once a week.

Not yet. I haven't gotten around to ordering more of them. That one had about 200rds through it, failure free, before I sent it off to Luke so he could make my mag carrier with it. Ordering a bunch is on my list of things to do.
