I remember seeing a rather neat black powder pistol a couple of years ago. It had a rectangular "magazine" that was loaded through the side, and then progressed through the breach as the hammer was cocked. If you've read Men At Arms by Terry Pratchett, you know what I'm talking about.
IIRC, the pistol was made in the Czech Republic. Anyone who've seen this?

At first I was afraid that my Google-Fu was weak, perhaps even broken, but then I was saved by an old thread on TheHighRoad.org.  The proper search term is "Harmonica pistol".  I found several examples, some with moving barrels, some with a moving strip of chambers.  One of the best is here: http://www.horstheld.com/0-Jarre.htm.

Here's another link with 6 different styles of harmonica guns: http://good-times.webshots.com/album/564193113IzsjJo

Supposedly, you could find these with up to 21 round bars.  Yikes!

Thanks for the project, those are cool!

A clever bit of firearms history, that is.  I like those.  Now, if it had a self cocking mechanism you would have had the world's first belted caseless machinegun.

Exactly what I was looking for! Thanks a lot. Fascinating guns those. And beautiful  Smiley.
One day I'll have a replica of the harmonica rifle from Men At Arms Cheesy Grin

Those look like an adventure in chain fire (or whatever you call it) should a bit of fire from your first shot get into the wrong place, ala the pepper box revolvers.

But way badass looking, who else wants one of these in .45 acp or 357mag?

my understanding is that most used pinfire cartridges, so they wouldn't have been 'caseless' and the whole cartridge concept greatly reduced the chance of a chain-fire

The right to defend our lives and the lives of our loved ones is one of the "inalienable" rights our Founding Fathers deemed most precious. Some states have protected that right while others have neglected it. Knowing where states draw the line between your rights and the rights of those who seek to harm you, our family, or your property could be the most important knowledge of your lifetime. Stepping over the line could mean personal and financial disaster.
