Lots of people have been put down with .22s, .25s, and .32a, but would never offer such anaemic cartridges and tie somebody's hands like that.  The mantra for many is: "shot placemen, shot placement, shot placement"  I agree, but I don't have a reasonable expectation that when things go sideways you'll have the opportunity to make a perfect shot.  More power (to a point) compensates for adrenalin, darkness, etc.  The will also be more effective at punching through heavy cloths, fat, etc.

Remember the goal is to stop - not, necessarily to kill. Bigger and faster bullets do that better and always will.

People have died from them, but those bullets don't reliably cause enough damage to stop your attacker now. You may get lucky with a .25, or you could read about George's experience where he shot a frisbee with a .25 and the bullet bounced off the frisbee and then bounced off George's chest.

Believable. .25AP has less umph (technical term) than .22LR.

I see people get into these discussions, sometimes pretty heated, on the one side where we can all agree shot placement is very important to the point we give amemic rounds like the mighty .25 a pass as an acceptable carry -- Or on the other hand, can become so derisive of the pitiful mousegun rounds as to forget their killing power. Guess you just need to understand the limitations. Most posters around here seem to get it.

I have a couple of boxes of Federal .25AP FMJ's, and I might even pick up a cheap 25 somewhere just for range fun. I might even admit to dropping it in my pocket occasionally if I'm walking out the door and not able to carry a gun...
The unreliable nature of rimfire just makes a .22 too scary for me as a ccw.
Already said I won't get into the ballistic discussion. BTDT.
I respect anyone who makes a sober, responsible decision to carry. And promises to use their powers for good and not evil. I just prefer to make bigger holes.

(I know one of the Rules of a Gunfight is to carry a gun with a caliber beginning with a 4... But might beginning with a 3 be enough if it ends with an M?)

In this thread that mimicks so very many other "what should I get" threads on countless forums, I'll post yet another response on this very, very tired subject....

Glock 27
Glock 23
Kahr Arms CW40
Kahr Arms PM9
Ruger SP101

Yes, yes, yes, they are all wonderful. There are many other great choices also...

Any of the above are carried nicely in a Super Tuck holster, the PM9 even with tucked in polo shirt...

Or, I'll carry in an ankle holster my M&P AR-15!

a Glock 19 would be a good purchase as well. I held one at a store the other day, felt nice. Which is weird because when I was shopping for my pistol, Glocks didn't feel right.

The Glock 19 is just about the perfect size for someone looking for one gun for everything (within the 9mm's limitations).  It is large enough to soak up recoil and shoot fairly accurately, but small enough to make it a good choice for a carry gun.

So gunfu, I would recommend the glock 26, can hold 10+ plus rounds, much easier to shoot than the 27, about the same size as the traditional pocket sized revolver.
Shooting the 27, you use all your muscle to keep the thing from jumping out of your hands and whapping you in the forehead.

I've been toying with the idea of getting an SP-101 to keep in a coat or jacket pocket, at least for the winter months, to keep my hands warm and on a gun. Plus the five shot surprise would (hopefully) buy you time to draw your primary carry weapon, in my case a 9mm 229.

So maybe get the ruger and the glock? But as it's starting to warm up now, maybe you'd be wearing a jacket less and less.

Definitely get the 26, though.
