The top item is the oiler (you probably figured that out already), the church-key looking thing on the bottom seems to be a handle for the cleaning chain and a takedown tool for the floorplate (some googling dropped me here--don't have a K98 myself).

Truth be told, I wouldn't want to run one of those steel chains through my barrel.

It's more a decerative piece, an display piece, if you will. I have acccess to aproper cleanig kit with all the fixings, and I have my own bore snake.

Actually, I asked what that piece was for, then the subject of runing metal through the bore came up, then........ I don't know? But I can see how the receiver would work.

[Smaller] brushes like that work for pistol frames too.  You'd be surprised all the gunk you find in those nooks and crannies.  I have used these in the past with success.  I like how they have a big brush and a fine brush.

So, for regular cleaning, I am not so hot on a surplus kit. I do like to have one, however, if it fits in the rifle's stock.

Toothbrush indeed.  A good tool.  As are some Q-Tips.  And I've become a fan of bore snakes.  A big fat boresnake can mop out a stripped receiver tube nicely.
