I saw one in Gander Mountain.  A bolt action, detachable-magazine rifle chambered in 7.62x39mm and marked "Australian International Arms."  It had the look of a milsurp refurb but for the life of me I couldn't figure out why Australia would produce a service rifle in a commie caliber.  I went home and googled it.

The rifles are apparently Lee Enfield actions that are modified to take AK-47 magazines!  The wood is a beautiful blonde teak.  The metal is an interesting gray phosphate finish.  The trigger is sweetness.  The whole Australian thing is pure marketing, as the rifles are apparently made in Viet Nam, although no markings are visible on the gun to that effect.

It is a handy little carbine and I can see a lot of potential there, especially for states where semiautos are over-regulated.  Anyone here have any feedback on the gun in action?

I have always wanted a bolt gun that took "high-cap" mags.

I saw a 22-250 on THR that took modified M14 mags.  Pretty slick.  It was a Savage.  Prairie dogs would learn to fear that rifle if I had it.

Sounds pretty nifty.  Can you grab us a pic?  Ogre will be all over that.

It's a good thing it was a Savage. The ability to quickly and easily replace barrels would be a necessity on a rifle like that.

I was thinking the same thing.  The barrel would be shot out real quick like methinks Cheesy

I wanna say it was $699.  The package also included a picatinny receiver bridge, some sort of scope, and a raised cheekpiece for the stock.

The bolt was very smooth until the very end, where there is some noticeable resistance, probably from the firing pin thingie that sticks out the back.  The trigger was very nice.

Okay.  How much?

It was either $599 or $699, but I can't recall exactly.  I'm leaning toward the higher figure.

Oh! The modern Lee-Enfield company. I knew this all sounded familiar.

The reason the bolt is so easy to work is that it is a cock-on-close design.

That explains the stiff resistance for the last inch or two while closing it.

Sweet gun.  I'd love a highcap bolt gun that used AK mags...

Following that though, It would be cooler still to have a CZ 527 modified to somehow accept highcap mags...

Added thought:  Didn't Remington make a bolt action that used AR mags??

Slide action.

Model 7615 Tactical

The theory is that the manual of arms is identical to the 870 shotgun so training would be cheaper and easier.

I think your arm might get tired before ya ran it dry.  Cool

Going down that road, the most annoying thing on my CZ 452 is the tiny little mag.  Even a 10 rnd option would just be awesome.
