In this thread we petition Larry to write a WTA exclusive short story based on the MHI universe.

Those of us who are of "The Order Of The Patch"  require satiation till the sequel.  Devonai sent me typed pages of his sequel, that I put in a loose leaf binder.  As a Charter Member of The Order Of The Patch, I desire equal treatment as a Monster Hunter.

If "we" have multiple books and patches(ahem) does that mean we can lean on him even harder? Wink

You assume we could write a coherent & interesting story but the reality is we can barely post here!  Grin

Kidding aside, that is not a bad idea, I am sure we do have some fine writers among us.

There might be a chupacabra story or two down here in Miami. Now, if I could only write something interesting about it without boring people into flleeing the forum

Once I wrote a few pages of a story that I had played around with.  Larry said something in that thread that made me laugh out loud as well as remember.

Oh, my.  Mack Bolen.  How many years ago did I read the first Mack Bolen book?

What was it?  Created: The Executioner.??

I read several after than.  I think my brother still has some of those original paperbacks from back in the stone age.

You're thinking Created: The Destroyer.

The first Bolan was "War Against the Mafia."

I wish I were good enough to be paid to write the Destroyer.  As it is, I only make my money writing the Executioner.   Embarrassed

(This was before I was doing it for actual paper.)

Hmm... let me ponder on this.

Right now I'm working on a screenplay for Sci-Fi. (not MHI related).  It will be wrapped up in the next week or so though.

I've got no problem with people doing FanFic. Nightcrawler did one on THR for Halloween that was excellent. Just a couple of rules though based on me reading FanFic from things like Star Trek where Kirk and Spock get a little, you know, funky... Owen Z. Pitt is and always will be totally straight...  Smiley

Larry!  HA HA HA!  TOTALLY STRAIGHT!  LMAO!  Oh man I'm calling people right now (I'm at work and I live on the phone) trying to keep a straight voice because I'm trying to hard not to laugh at your spock/kirk comment thinking of poor scarred owen!

But if you don't mind I don't think I'll use owen if I can write a short on one of the other teams?  If that's ok I'd like to take a stab at it around the team using Bun Bun as their mascot?   8)

Perhaps a simple rule is that fans must create new characters and can only refrence the main characters.  Perhaps even creating new teams in different areas.

dangit still wanted to take a stab at team bun bun.  Any team that uses as their mascot a homicidal bunny rabbit packing a switchblade has got to be BAD A 2nd only to the main characters!  Smiley

It'd be hard to do Owen justice.  Larry has such a unique voice for him that anyone else trying it would have to be someone who studies the writer/character interface intrinsically (Max Alan Collins or Philip Jose Farmer) or relegate him to a third person style appearance.

Other characters handled from a third person perspective are easier to do different takes on.

Hey, it's totally up to Larry, not me.  I'm just suggesting some rules to protect Owen from a Brokeback scene with Grant.

Owen and Grant?  Yikes!  Nope.  Orcs and Ogres.  Now THAT could be way out of the box.  No I did not have a level 36 magic user in D&D.  Wait-What's D&D?

Dangit George! Was that really necessary?

And you thought "Taint Rustlers" stirred up a flurry of horrific imagery?!

You need to hijack Two-Gun away from Ringo's universe...

(i wonder - could one steal a character? or borrow?)

Considering that I've smuggled Ben Grimm, Reed Richards, a bevy of Teen Titans villains and Oracle into the Bolan universe, all you need is some creativity.

For an EXCELLENT example of how to smuggle characters from one inspiration to another, please reference Philip Jose Farmer's "A Feast Unknown."

As for protecting established characters from Brokeback moments... I do have a gay outlaw hitting on Carl "Ironman" Lyons as they're defending Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant.  Lyons is just politely turning him down.

Oh yeah, I forgot, I smuggled in Omar and the Greek from the Wire, and also turned the Shield's Strike Team into Turkish cops.

Everything sanitized for your pleasure, however.

I say Larry keeps on working on the real deal. But fan based stories would be a big plus. Look at what Speilberg has done with the SW series, and the fans turn out some amazing product. I always love reading parallel stories.

My only request is that where ever the fan posts becomes peoperty of the board. Who knows, maybe it could give some other story lines for Larry to expand upon.

What would be really cool is if these fan shorts could give some detailed information and ideas to Larry about small, lesser known Monsters...
Such as the Northern Wisconsin Hodag.  A small spikey dog sized beast.

Yeah I agree Owen and Earl and the core characters should be off limits.

Sorry ANY brokeback scene just gives me the heebie jeebies.  Nothing against those that enjoy it just t'aint for me.

I encourage FanFic.

However, if it sucks, we're going to be mean to you.  Very VERY MEAN. Like hurt your feelings mean. Like make you cry, take your lunch money, that kind of thing.

Now stuff that I write is cannon, everything else doesn't count. That's how it's got to be.

Harm, I'm assuming you're Hrgrisso from THR right? Well, dude, you're a talented author, go for it.

The team that has Bun Bun as a mascot is lead by Jay Boone, who's based on the real life PvtPyle. Army SF vet, and generally snarky and angry man.  Smiley The surviving members of his team as of the end of MHI:1 were a former South African Catholic priest (don't know where I got that idea, cough, Preacherman, cough) called, ironically enough, Priest, because I'm lazy. And the newest member was Sgt. Gregorious, recruited at the end of MHI:1.  Other than that, they weren't developed a whole lot.

How about we set a few of us guys loose in a subforum like this:

With the proper theme of course. Grin  I know not everyone's up to roleplaying an anthropomorphic wolf alien.
