Tentsile

I just slap myself upside the head when I see things like this. Why the heck didn't I think of this.

I am seriously considering getting one to try since I live out of a tent a considerable amount of time for my job. The ground sucks to sleep on a little more each year I live.

Ummm  .    .     .     OK .     :hmm    I can see where it might be feasible in a location with a great number of large trees but that really limits your options as far as where its usable.   Forget about it above the tree line - forget about it most places on the great plains - forget about it in the desert.  You can probably forget about it on any sort of reasonably steep slope or unlevel terrain even with lots of trees.  I understand the length of the support straps gives you some flexibility regarding the placement of the shelter but still, it seems dependent on a fairly narrow set of conditions in order to make it work.   It seems prone to the "cheap waterbed" phenomenon of rolling everything toward the center - not an issue if you are the sole occupant but with three people in there it could become problematic.  Since you are essentially sleeping on a trampoline, every time somebody moves during the night the whole structure moves until the oscillation subsides.   How does your dog get in and out of it?  Where do you put your muddy boots?  How much does the whole set-up weigh?

Yes, sleeping on the ground can suck - especially when you get old and creaky - but I think I'll still keep my three season tent with vestibule.

I camp out of a Hennessy hammock pretty exclusively and they are very versatile, basically the only way to camp!
You can always bring 1 tent pole or a large stick or something to prop up one end and then use it like a normal tent, don't think that would work for the tentsile things though.

For colder weather you can use them like ground tents or buy / make insulation for under the outside of your hammock.
But I've slept out to about 30-40* with just a cold weather bag and had zero problems.

Those tentsile numbers look pretty darn awesome! The would work great around here for sure.
But they start at like $600! I'll pass I think.

I think since I am looking at it from where I camp. It would be awesome. SE OK is still fairly flat and has large trees spaced fairly well arranged for something like this to work well.

I can see how it would do poorly in many areas outside of my main camping areas. It would be near useless in west OK. Since the odds of finding trees to set it up on would be near impossible.
