Wolff Springs for Wilson Mags
« on: February 23, 2009, 05:33:19 pm »
The springs in my Wilson 47D's were getting pretty bad, so I ordered a 10-pack of Wolff # 78904 springs specifically listed for Wilson 8-round magazines.  When they arrived, I took the first mag apart, compared the old spring to the new one, and yep, it was significantly shorter.  So I swapped out all my springs.

Then the followers were tilting nose-up and hanging up on the magazine tube.  I figured I must have screwed up the installation, so I asked one of the guys at my favorite gun store to have a look.  He took a new 47D off the shelf, took it apart, and the spring in the new mag was over 1" longer than the new Wolff.

I called Wolff right away, and they are replacing the springs, but I got to listen to a nice rant about how the 1911 was meant to use a 7-round mag and 8-rounders are nothing but trouble.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with Wolff springs in 8-round 1911 magazines?  Thanks.
