Hello!
I am not new to the forum here but obviously read (lurk?) more than I post. I really enjoy Mr. Hill's column and have learned a lot from reading the topics on this forum. A belated Thanks! to everyone.
I went to the Fort Worth Cabelas location tonight to look for a Remington 700 SPS .308 they advertised (shipment didn't come in, check back soon) and spotted one of those Sig Sauer C3 1911's in the pistol case. They have the stainless slide model with an extended magazine well for $949.

I gotta say I had a reaction like the dog character in the Tex Avery cartoons when I held that pistol. Not sure if my eyes actually bugged out three feet or an audible AOOGHAH! sound occurred, but I sure did dig the way that gun felt in my hand and pointed for me!
I've read Mr. Hill's glowing review of that Sig pistol.

I am in the process of getting my Texas CHL. I grew up shooting my father's 1911's and I am a big fan of that platform. I currently have a Taurus PT1911 that I love. Accurate, not one malfunction, but it's a little big to conceal in Texas in August.

I have a CZ P-01 that has been my intended carry pistol (that I shoot great with, just completely love it), but this Sig pistol has turned my head around a bit.

I'm more than interested in The Horde's thoughts. I can (grudgingly) afford it and know I'm getting value for my money. Is $949 a ridiculous price for that pistol? Are there better deals to be had at gun shows?

(Please feel free to 'fire for effect' with sarcasm if I made any gun forum blunders in this message!)

Thanks,
Mac

    I really like them too.

There are four on GunBroker right now, the cheapest is $879.

Here's a review by George Hill one of the founders here (MadOgre):

Thanks for the kind words, Mac, and welcome to WTA.

The C3 is a great pistol. I used to carry one off duty when my duty gun was a 1911. It is the 1911 equivalent to a Glock 23. Small enough to conceal without great difficulty but still able to fill the role of a full sized pistol.

You came to the wrong place to try to get talked out of buying a new gun!   :rotfl

    Hello Sirs!

Thank you so much for all your "f yeah!" replies. I think I'm going to roll with the RCS 'blued' version when I get one.

I ran into a deal on that Remington 700 SPS Tactical .308 (like $500! Year End Clearance! Yippee!) so I gotta buy optics and all that jazz fer my new rifle (I'll move this to the Rifle Forum, but my dad is suggesting a brand called Swift to start. 6x24 50mm. He has a Zeiss scope on his that is remarkable.).

I really want one of those Sig C3/RCS 1911's and that's my next purchase.

Hey George, thanks, but I just defer to Sir/Ma'am/Mr./Mrs. to people I respect. Ogre's good with me, sir!

looked at a couple of gun stores yesterday to see if anyone had a C3 on hand.  None did, so that means still heading to a gun show soon.  Did have an interesting encounter however.
Kaw Valley gun club in Topeka.
Had Kimber Eclipse Ultra in the display cabinet.  Brand new, never been fired, only been in for a couple of days.
I asked to see it.  counterman hands it to me and I, as usual, drop the mag and lock open the slide to check.

Mag will not drop.  I mean, seriously, brand new pistol, and the Mag will NOT DROP.  won't even move more then 1/16 inch if that much. can't pull it from the bottom.   I had to lock the slide open and push the mag out to get it to move. Forcefully push the mag.
counterman related that "yeah, I get Kimber's in all the time and that's a common problem.  so we replace the Kimber mags with Chip McCormick to fix it".

that's rather jacked up.  Kimber can't even do good enough quality control to check out their Mag's before shipping ?
    :shrug

I did like the very aggressive checking on the front strap,  it felt ok,  I'm not in love with a 3 inch barrel, so I'm still going to look at a C3 or one of the others with a 4.2.   But, just from his comments and that encounter,  I'm so turned off about Kimber that I don't even want to look at them now.

Held the C3 at my LGS today.  It felt real nice.  Gotta say my hands are just a bit big for it though.  My pinkie was coming off the end a bit, but it wasn't real noticeable.  It sure was put together nicely.
