POLL : Glock 19 or 26 ?
« on: July 07, 2012, 06:05:56 AM »
Got a question for you guys.  On Monday I am going to be buying a brand new Glock.  This will be a 9mm because its all my Wife will fire, (Next year will be a 10 mm  :thumbup1).  Also I already have 4 high cap mags sitting in the safe.

This will be for 99% carrying concealed.  When carried a full size G17 mag will be carried for back up.  My dilema is this;  Should I go with the 26 because I know that it will be easier to conceal on a daily basis, or go with the 19 because of the better sight radius and grip length?

I have been going back and forth with this and can't make up my mind.  So, you guys get to help.   :doh

OH, I will be getting the LEO glock package with three mags and the same price for both.
Yes I live in California.  Please dont hold that against me.

I have both.  With my issued duty gun I have a 17, 19, and a 26.  The differences between the 19 and 26 are fairly small.  I carry the 19 AIWB in my new CCC Shaggie  :clap. I primarily carry the 26 in an ankle holster.

IDK the exact measurement but the difference in grip length is probably 1/2". For that you get an extra 5 rounds and you have a place to rest your pinkie. I voted for the 19 but I really like my 26 too.   :shrug

If this is a personaly owned weapon, then all you are going to get is 10 rounds.  You say you have high-caps full capacity magazines, but those fit in the G26 just as well as the G19.  If you could get regular mags, I would say to get the G19, but as it stands, get the model 26.

Kaso, personally owned weapon, but I am a Sworn Peace Officer so I get the full capacity mags.  Its a loophole that lets CA. LEO's have all the goodies like, off list firearms and unrestricted magazines (In pistols, in an AR I am still limited to 10 rounds unless its registered to the Department. I don't agree with it, but I am going to take advantage of it.

HiVelSword, I love the PPQ, but not the price.

The 19 is one of the best handguns ever made. 26 might be easier to conceal but more bullets on tap is better (says the 1911 guy). Still, it takes time to reload and time isn't always an available luxury.

I don't have a vote. If you want more rounds go 19. If you want a little more concealability go 26. You'll be happy with either, and yes you'll end up with both eventually. :)

I'm a fan of the 19. Sight radius isn't that big of a deal, shootability is. most people who get the 26 immediately stick a grip extension on it, bringing it to G19 grip length. Kinda stupid if you ask me, instead of getting the 19...the slight extra bbl length isn't a problem.

I don't THINK I'll ever have to face down routers in the streets.

I should hope not. Mobs of rogue woodworking tools would suck to repel.

when i was thinking about picking up a smaller gun for summer carry i looked at the specs for the 26 and took a ruler to my 19 and decided it wasn't worth it. smaller in a lot of ways that would irritate me and the same size in most of the ways that matter. unless you wear your tees tightly fitted a 19 is easy enough to conceal IWB.

on the other hand a 17/26 combination might make a lot of sense...

To be honest, a G19 is a combination of those two - big enough to shoot well, and small enough to pack easily.

I will preface my choice by first stating that the 19 is the best all around Glock there is

but for your scenario, I would pick the 26

at one point I had a 19, a 30sf and a 26

I ended up getting rid of the 19 simply because I wouldn't carry it. I carry the 30sf on duty with the 26 as a back up. Off duty, I carry the 26 so my 19 wasn't getting any use and I needed the money

the 26 is just as accurate as the 19 and I think it actually cycles a tiny bit faster. Size matters for a concealed carry gun so the 26 is what I went with

Everybody is different but I agree with Kaso.

Which gun do you think you would shoot with the most?

I call it my 99+ gun, or the gun that I carry and shoot at least 99 percent of the time.  For me this gun is an HK P30 which is very similar in size to the Glock 19.  It covers most of the bases- training, target shooting, and does okay in the carry department.  There are times in the summer where I need to slim down so I go to my Kahr K9 which has a similar trigger but carries like it is half the size.  Although my experience is limited with this Shield, it looks like it would do very well in this role.

Another option is the S&W M&P 9c.  Size wise it fits in between the 19 and the 26.

19 Gen 3.

Does everything without the drama and fanfare of the Gen 4... Simple.  Effective.  What a Glock is all about.  And you can find them cheaper used.

Looking like it will be the 19.

George, I actually would prefer a gen 3 but I don't know if there are any available new anymore.  Since I am a LEO I can't find any used guns that are cheaper then the LEO price of $398 with standard sights.  (will be upgraded, so why get anything else right?)  With the price and quality you get it's hard to spend at least $100 more on another brand. No matter what Gen I get the finger grooves will be gone the first day it gets home.

If the finger grooves are coming off, I would go with a Gen4.  My Gen2 was not very 'grippy,' a fact that I didn't like.  A Gen3 is little more than a Gen2 with grooves and a rail.  The Gen4s have (I've heard) a more agressive grip.

My personal choice is the 26. I would really say try both in the hand though. I would also interject that swapping mag floorplates with the GAP floorplate is a great way to add to the grip stability, without adding to the length of the grip. They can be had here: www.concealablecontrol.com  I've had one on my G26 carry gun for a decade. Good stuff. (I also carry G17 mags for reloads.)

If this is primarily for concealed carry, get the 26, I have both and I find the 26 to be substantially easier to conceal than the 19.
With the 19 I have to wear a baggy shirt and even then I have to pay attention to make sure I don't print. The 26 can ride under a tshirt with no problems and no worries.

I vote get rid of the 17 and get both the 19 and 26. If you are keeping the 17 I would go with a 26. The 19 is awesome, my favorite frame size in a handgun, but it is too big to carry as a back-up, at least for me. If you already have a full/duty size gun, it makes more sense to me to go smaller and use the second glock as a BUG. That said, get both, sell the 17 and you will never look back. The 19 performs like a bigger gun than it is, and many LEOs I know, including my brother-in-law, carry one as their primary while on duty.

So I went to the store today to buy my new G19.  They know I am a LEO and priced me out a standard sites blue label Glock 19.  This, according to Glock is priced at $398.  They told me a price of $450.   :scrutiny  Um... NO the price per Glock should be $398 for the model I asked for.

"Oh, no, that's not a current price for those".

:facepalm  "Would you like me to go home and print out the nice Email from Glock's LEO price rep I recieved 2 days ago ?"

"ERRR umm well actually thats my price from the distributor, were not a stocking LEO dealer anymore so we have to go through a distributor.  You can order it from another place but by the time you paid for the shipping and FFL transfer it would only be 3 dollars cheaper. But would take longer"

So I told them I had to think about it and walked out.  Now after researching, NONE of the other gun dealers within 700 miles are "stocking dealers" anymore.   :banghead  So is it just me or am I getting bent over and treated like an idiot?

Its still a good price but not what its supposed to be.  Looks like I will be paying the price but it still irritates me that they tried to pull one by saying, "Oh that's the new price" game on me.  They lost my business after tomorrow I believe.

Hmm. No stocking LE dealers within 700 miles? Is Glock retrenching, or something? I know that S&W has made some serious inroads on their LE marketshare, but that's ... odd. If it was a choice made by Glock, it's a bad choice ... if it is a case of dealers telling Glock to take a hike ...that's even more odd.

Not a choice by Glock, but what I think is a bad marketing move by them.  From what I was told Glock changed their policy so that if they wanted to be a "stocking" dealer they needed to buy so many "units" (Leo Blue Label Glocks) at the first of the year.  Otherwise they need to purchase from those dealers that bought the amount of Blue labels.

They used to be able to buy 3-5 at a time and then order direct from Glock for any additional units.  I think they were trying to get dealers to keep more units on hand but it backfired on them.

Well, Glocks marketing really failed them.  I went in today, sure I was going to buy a Glock.  I walked out with a receipt for a S&W M&P9C  LOL

I ended up holding one as the guy next to me was looking at it.  Ended up liking the feel MUCH better than the Glock. Ended up being 40 dollars more out the door.  So now I need to sell all the accessories I had for Glock and start over again.  LOL
