Name Your State. CHL Handgun Limits?
« on: April 23, 2017, 01:47:02 PM »
What state do you live in and do they have a limit on the number of handguns you may carry?

Just a fun little exercise and if it's not too much trouble, list the law if multiple handguns are forbidden or allowed  :cool.

Texas has no limits.

Do we forget that cops were primarily still using 6 Shot Revolvers well through the mid 80's? It wasn't until after 1986 that most departments then relented and went to autos.
Capacity wasn't really an issue then... and honestly really it's not even an issue now.
Ray Chapman, used to say that the 125-grain Magnum load’s almost magical stopping power was the only reason to load .357 instead of .38 Special +P ammunition into a fighting revolver chambered for the Magnum round. I agree. - Massad Ayoob

PA doesn't say anything about it one way or another. So I'm assuming that you can carry as many guns as you want. The only limits AFAIK are that you can only conceal pistols or registered NFA items, though I haven't been able to successfully locate that particular statute.

I've heard that in New Mexico it is conceal 1, but the rest must be open carried.

Not sure if that is true though.

    Georgia, here...

So far as I know, it's pretty much "As many as you can carry without clanking..."

The video, of a kid in baggy pants pulling out a veritable arsenal? Would be applauded as a good start (while also derided for limiting his mobility).

    Utah doesn't have a limit.

I would've been surprised if they did  ;).

When I get the chance, I need to move out there or to Arizona. See what it's like to have a gun friendly culture and true freedom.

no concealed knives over 3",(clips make the knife "unconcealed") no double edged knives.
and legally any gun you want provided that it's a pistol.
practically? no one looks twice at me over here with a 4" assisted knife, a loaded rifle/shotgun, and a 1911.

No, that was the metric that the previous administration would use.  Now you have to be 'walking North, while Brown.'  Carry a bigly gun, and that makes you a 'very bad dude.'

Well, in all seriousness, unless you've narrowly avoided a roll-over accident on I-10 with a 15 passenger van full of illegals being held at gunpoint by coyotes and then seen the resultant clusterf**k as law enforcement tried to render order form that chaos - or been sitting in the local fast food joint when some drug addled nitwit with gang tattoos comes running in waving a hatchet and demanding "pesos! - mucho dinero!" ( happened this past Sunday ) - or seen signs erected by the Obama administration in your own state warning you that you are in an "Active drug and human smuggling corridor" and warning you to beware of heavily armed strangers and vehicles being operated at high speed and gee, wouldn't you rather use other "public lands" miles away and oh by the way, please call 911 if you see anything suspicious. - or seen 60 people being led from a three bedroom "drop house" where they were being held by Mara Salvatrucha for weeks while the women and girls were raped or sold into prostitution and the rest had their relatives back home being shaken down for money - or various other flavors of depravity, I'm thinking you don't really understand the scope of the problem in border states.   I personally hope the "bad hombres" are indeed rounded up and sent packing and the border wall is built mui damned pronto.   And most of my brown neighbors and co-workers feel the same way.  Just sayin' .  .  .   :shrug

Yeah not much of a limit here...I pulled over an older gentleman for a California rolling stop the other night...slow night and was planning a verbal warning anyway...and the gentleman informed me there were guns in the car.

Gentleman: Deputy, I just want you to know, I have a few guns in the car.

Me: Okay. Where are they so I'll know.

G: Gotta Colt .38 on my hip and a .357 in the console.

Me: Thank you for letting me know. Are they in areas where your license and insurance card are located?

    G: No

    Me: Ok.

Traffic stop goes on. Warning is issued everything's copacetic.

Me: Sir, I have to ask you one question.

G:okay. (Worried look on his face)

Me: What kind of revolvers are they?

He laughed and said it was a Colt Cobra and the .357 was a snubnosed Lawman. We had a nice chat. The Lawman was his dads and the Cobra was a present from his dad when he started working in the family shop at 16.

I've been guilty of carrying "an arsenal" both on and off duty lol

I've been stopped at a check point with multiple guns before.... went something like this:

Officer: Hows it going today sir. license and registration?

Me: pretty good today sir, I'm legally required to inform you that I am a concealed carry holder, and have firearms in the vehicle. one of them is on my right hip over my wallet. what would you like me to do?

Officer: Okay, thank you. where are the others?

me: two rifles unloaded in a rack behind the seat, a shotgun behind the seat too, a pistol on my hip that I've already told you about, and a pistol under the seat in a case, and i think that's it.

Officer: Have a great day sir.

Edit: I was coming home from a range day at a buddies. just FYI. I'm normally a pistol and one rifle.

An odd thing I noticed over the years is that having a CHL and mentioning it calmly and intelligently during a traffic stop seems to result in an unusually high percentage of verbal or written warnings vs actual citations. The interactions also seem to be much more congenial that that those reported by most non-CHL holders.
Almost as if LEOs were extending a bit more benefit of the doubt and perhaps a touch of what would otherwise be called professional courtesy?

Considering that CCW/CHL/LTC holders are statistically much more law abiding than most the courtesy -- professional or otherwise -- is justified IMO.  OTOH, there are also cops like this one:
