...how many of you have lanyard rings on at least some of your handguns?

How many actually attach a lanyard to your pistol and under what conditions?

I have a lanyard that I would attach during rappel training. It's still around somewhere.

In addition to CF's use, I expect that LE or MIL operating on a boat of some kind would use them.

I've seen pictures of Naval personal using them.

I use one with my SOC-C rig. Of course I'm using that when training with the local ERT squad.

The only guns that have them (standard) is my 1937 S&W and Taurus 82 revolvers.

That said, in some instances I am thinking I'd put one on my 226 or 228 Sig if I was in unfamiliar area and losing a handgun would be serious doo-doo (swamp, water,etc.).

If the gun came with one, it's still on there. Never use them. Don't own a dummy cord.

My Ballerina-Molester and M1911 have them. Never put a lanyard on either, but I'd consider it for rough country hiking.

I don't have any pistols with lanyard rings, but admire those so equipped. I sometimes use a dummy cord on a spud wrench when working at height.

It would make that Pistol bayonet more formidable. Better yet attach two pistols to one lanyard....

Have to all the time standing topside guard duty on my submarine. It was required after too many M9s going to the bottom of harbors during weapon turnover. My P22 has one, but I have never used it. Maybe I should before I take it on a hike with me or hunting again....

Actual utility I think is minimal. I have one on one of my guns, a GI Springer, but I never use it. Maybe if I was going to jump out of a plane with it... MAYBE.

Trust me, I think the "phone cord" lanyard is a great idea. Uniformed cops, military, anyone who's outdoors.

I also think an "autowind" type lanyard would be a good idea to minimize snagging.

How about wrist lanyards for keeping your handgun "at hand" when sleeping in bear country?

Perhaps a wrist lanyard like the one used here:

Sleeping in bear country, my wife does that every night unarmed.
