BBQ firearm ideas?
« on: May 12, 2012, 01:46:51 pm »
So my boss has made mention that he is going to propose soon to his girlfriend and of course the talk started on what firearms are going to be packed at the wedding (gotta love the people I hang around with). Well, long story short, they are going to soon be the proud owners of a Nighthawk 1911 of some kind. So I got to thinking. This is not going to be the only wedding I will probably have to be in and a good BBQ pistol is in order. I'm pretty set on working firearms right now so maybe its time to put some thought and money into a good looking pistol. My first thoughts seem to focus around a revolver of some kind. Most likely a .44 which led me to an S&W 629 of some kind gussied up with some nice elk grips and so forth. But I got to thinking go Old School. Maybe a single action Ruger with Elk grips and maybe a little tasteful engraving. Maybe one of the Lipsey specials in .44 Special with the 3.5 inch barrel? What do y'all think? Any other ideas, cuz I'm pretty open but leaning heavily towards a wheel gun.

Edited: they refers to both of my bosses as one is dating the others sister-in-law.

The S/A Ruger with elk grips sounds perfect.

Well, shoulder holsters is the idea for the wedding. I was thinking of a Huckleberry rig with a matching custom knife if I go with a single action or a floral pattern high ride if I went for a DA revolver.

I'm thinking nice 1911,   or a Smith & Wesson Model 29.     If you want something more exotic,  maybe one of the CZ or Tangfolio high end competition guns.   Colt Python would be nice too, but those get pricey.    Bren 10 if the wedding happens to involve white suits and pastel shirts.

I would go with a 3" Smith 29, maybe a trail boss if you can find one.  For leather, check out Daimond D custom leather.

My BBQ gun. Not quite as blingy.  Bird heads Vaquero with the longer barrel

Well I soon hope to build my 1911, that will double nicely as a BBQ gun, Commander size, bobtailed  melted frame and slide. Cocobolo grips and 10mm goodness. Finish that off with a nice satin finish and the coleburn armory logo engraved on the slide with the serial number MWC-1011.

Mine is a Smith model 13, nickel plated with Spegel boot grips in a Bianchi belt slide holster.  Nothing fancy but the bobbed hammer is always a conversation starter.  I really need to get one of Luke's finest for the old girl.

As with two of the previous posts, I would go for a Ruger Vaquero with the birdshead grip--I have been lusting after one since I held one in Texas 10 years ago.  They are beautiful guns, and the grip looks and feels awesome.  I am trying to save up some money for the current Talo edition chambered in .45 ACP.  Then I have to save up for a good leather rig to go with it.

This is mine. Not really fancy but it's the only shiny one I have.

This is what I want. 44 special. It looks like a BBQ rig.
