Remington 1100 Barrel Repair

Looking for some guidance on repair work for one of my Remington 1100 Barrels. I bought a used 21" Rifle Sight Smoothbore 2 3/4" Barrel used because that configuration isn't available from Remington anymore, and after 25 slugs down the barrel, the gas collar separated from the rest of the barrel.

Can this be safely rewelded back onto the barrel as long as the gas ports are properly lined up or will it warp the barrel and make it unusable just trying?

(P.S. Don't crap on me for how my 1100 Magnum is configured, I bought it configured this way, which is why I want to have an alternative barrel with a practical length.)

    I'm no expert, but it looks like it should have been welded on in the first place, and therefore see no reason it couldn't be done (*CAREFULLY*) again.

    But if that's the surface that is supposed to be mated to the barrel, why does it look like a plug instead of a port?

    It should be brazed with high temp silver solder, not welded.

    The part that sticks up on the collar mates to a hole in the barrel to make it easier to center the gas port holes, there's 2 separate holes in the barrel and collar that have to line up for the gas ports...


    Is a propane torch good enough to braze the silver solder or does it take something higher temp to do it right?

    You need MAPP gas for silver solder.  Propane does not get hot enough..

    Damn...alright thanks for the help. I kept telling myself the barrel was worth saving because it was a $130 investment. I'll look at doing a home repair job and if that can't keep it together...I might end up selling the 1100 and putting it towards a new 930.

    I did a quick Internet check, and Midway has several Rem 1100 21" rifle-sighted barrels on their site, but they're all listed as "unavailable - seasonal run." So my guess is that Remington only does a small run of them each year, but you should be able to replace the part. Don't know if you want to wait until they hit the market again, though.

    Yeah Raptor-Man, I've been on and off of Midway trying to figure out when that seasonal run is for that particular barrel, it didn't come up as available last fall which is when I would assume it becomes available for most Deer seasons...I think it's just plain ol' unavailable, they just don't want to say it yet...

    give Remington a call, a friend of mine was able to get a hold of a odd ball 20 gauge barrel that way. might come up empty but worth a shot.

    You could also ask a few of the resident gunsmiths if they have the needed gear.  You may find their rates agreeable.

    I'll take a look at the some gunsmithing listings, I have a couple of engineers in the family as well that do contract work from home so I'll check to see if the materials are available to me as well...this barrel will live to shoot again.

    You are on the right track.  I have nothing to add to the repair advice.  I just want to say that I have one of those barrels and love it.  Actually, I have the entire early '70s 1100 Deer Gun that I have converted to tactical with a Speedfeed forestock and buttstock and extended mag tube.

    The barrel is improved cylinder and loves Federal FliteControl buck.  It is well worth getting repaired.
