Ok, so I got my Kimber Pro Carry bobtail a while back, and the top bushing on each side of the frame was a tad loose so I unscrewed all 4 and loctited them in, gently snugged the grips on and all has been well. I noticed the threads looked a little shallow but they came up snug with a light touch. 

While at the range today I was shooting and the right side grip panel came off the gun completely  and the left side top bushing is essentially stripped free. So I'm assuming the previous owner really buggered up after the bobtail conversion and overtightened the bushings in the frame enough to damage 3 of the 4 pretty good. My choices are to buy the kit from brownells for $55 and hope it will hold or put that money toward a new Fusion Firearms alloy or Foster industries stainless frame for $220-250.
 

Does anyone have any experience with the oversized tap and bushing set to know if it's even worth trying on the alloy frame? And I am also assuming that the current threads are now entirely gone.

PS: And I just realized this should be in gunsmithing and repair and not handguns, so if a mod could move this for me, I'd appreciate it. I should pay closer attention.

That is what I will probably do tomorrow morning. I really don't want to replace the frame if I can avoid it. I looked into the oversize kit in passing before but had never had cause to need it until now. All my other 1911's have been steel so I just loctited the bushings in and swapped to allen head screws and went about my merry way.

That blows man.

At least it's good to hear the tap kit was successful on the others, for whatever good it did.
