Installed my first LPK
« on: April 23, 2014, 10:33:57 pm »
Everything went well except for the trigger pins.  I am using a drop in Timney trigger and when I put the trigger pins in, there is no tension.  When turned on its side, the pins fall out.  Right now I'm use tape to hold them in.

Now, when I install the trigger from the LPK, the pins stay in because of the tension.  So what should I do?

Sounds like you got a Timney trigger made for an older Colt with 0.170" pins instead of the milspec 0.154" pins.

You mean you didn't launch the takedown pin retaining springs?

You fail in the art of AR15 manufacture, every first time assembler needs to lose one of those springs and/or retaining pins.

Ask me how I know  :cool  One lower has a ground down nail instead of the actual pin because I lost it.

You might also want to make sure your hammer spring isn't installed upside down. It's supposed to engage a groove in the trigger pin and keep it from falling out. If the spring is upside down it will seem like everything is okay except for that.

Well the Timney package says 0.154.  With this trigger, I don't have to mess with any of the parts. It's all preassembled.  I don't have to touch the springs for the trigger or hammer. Everything seems to function correctly.  Safe is safe and Fire is fire.

Is it possible the LPK have the wrong size pins?

I should say, that when the hammer is down, there is a little tension and the pins stay.  When the hammer is back, that's when they fall out.

All of this is without the Upper in place.  Haven't tried it with the upper in as I'm just going to leave the tape on until I can figure out what I'm supposed to do.

I am an idiot. Forgot to install the trigger lock screws.  Let's see if that fixes my problems.
