Thanks guys.  Another year older and not enough wiser to compensate for a years time  ;)

Best birthday present is coming next week.  Keeping y'all that ain't real up on facebook  ;)  My fiancée is formally moving up here to a temporary residence.    Spent my birthday working my butt off getting things ready to set up our new house  :D

Lol, If you don't mind me asking, what are the differences? I'm always curious on that stuff.   I've seen photos of a few members here and some are spot on what I sorta pictured, some aren't (not a bad thing, it's just funny what we picture in our heads).

Ah, interesting.  Yeah, no moustache (wintertime's a **** in it's always freezing up) and a ball cap is more conductive to four-wheelers.  I usually have a cap on but figured for engagement pictures it should come off  :cool

Thanks for the birthday wishes.  And yes, I am definitely marrying up in almost every regard.

Huh...besides the glasses that's exactly how I pictured you. And I always pictured you with a ball cap too.

I tell my wife that anyone else would've married up with her but I married sideways, on account of me being a handsome Tier 1 bachelor.

I mean, I guess it could work that way. There's no written rule that women can't marry up, is there? Or, uh, in your case... Sideways  ;).

Statistically it is impossible for any more than half of all men to marry 'up.'  The other half 'marry down.'  By its nature, that gives the appearance of the woman marrying up.

I woulda had a ball cap but that was a nono during wedding pictures  :cool

And why is it impossible for more than half of all men to marry up?   I'd say on average, women having boobs automatically makes 75% of them "Up" in the form of marrying  :neener

I understand that most men place their wives on a pedestal, and look up to them that way.  *Most* men who think they have married up, say so because they view their wives this way.  Some of them do marry well, no doubt, but men have a tendency to 'look up' at their wives and 'look down' at themselves.  Through that lens...  Sure, all men marry up. ::)

My point is, men themselves are a very poor judge of the quality of their spouses.

For instance, back to Grant: (I have never met Kate, so I couldn't judge her if I wanted to.  My only commentary, based upon Grant's assessment, is that I agree they are meant for each other)  Grant is the only son of the family, and sole heir to the family ranch.  He is reasonably attractive, (for a male) :neener fit, financially responsible, and he has a work ethic. Once again, not presuming anything about his fiancé, but looking at it objectively, how many women would actually be stepping down to marry that?  Objectively?

You have no argument from me. The only time I've ever heard the phrase "marrying up" is referring to wages or quality/expense of living. In that paradigm, then most women marry up.

I agree with Kaso, men typically do seem to maximise their flaws and then gloss over their spouses imperfections. While it is good that love covers up a multitude of sins (and you should minimise your spouses weak points), I can't see much good coming from someone berating themself.

And virtue trumps everything else, regardless of gender. Always  :cool. And virtuous partners can be difficult to find.
