An updated pic of my two JR terrorists.

They are resting probably after destroying something. They haven't killed anything........yet. But I bet  they have compiled a list

The only breed I've seen tangle with javelina and come out on top. I've seen 100 lb GSDs that were torn up or even killed, but that little JRT took on a whole herd like a ninja. He was jumping around on their backs, chewing up their ears, and bouncing away before they could do more than squeal.  :o

No pictures yet, but my father has recently committed to buy a GSDxSiberian Husky cross.  Gerberian Shepsky, or somesuch.  NOT the cross I would have picked, but we'll see. :hmm

What a great bunch of dogs. After 11 years the spinal arthritis finally got to my best friend.   Had to have him put down last Friday.

My dog had to start taking heart medication this past month.   She's still pretty active and hasn't had any major health problems before, but she's 11.5 and I know she doesn't have that many years left.    She's a wonderful dog and I'm really going to miss her whenever the time comes.

My all time favorite quotation on losing a dog:

"I have sometimes thought of the final cause of dogs having such short lives and I am quite satisfied it is in compassion to the human race; for if we suffer so much in losing a dog after an acquaintance of ten or twelve years, what would it be if they were to live double that time?"

My very sincere condolences Northface.  I have a 14 year old Lab and I will dearly miss him when he passes.

I've spent more time with my Lab than any human since we got him as a puppy.  My wife thinks I need to get out more.

Don't know how I missed this, but I did!  Sorry for being late to the party!

This is Molly, a foundling mutt that I picked up on my way to town one morning four years ago.  I almost hit her, she was in the road, trying to drag some roadkill off the pavement.  I stopped, and she came running up like she was greeting a long-lost cousin or something.  Tried to find where she belong, went a half-mile up the road in every direction, until I came to one house across from where I found her.  The lady there told me, pointing across the road to where a mobile home had stood until a few days ago, "Them sorry SOBs moved off and left her, two weeks ago!  You take her home with you!"  So I did.

Now, I'm not a fan of small dogs, never have been.  But this one kinda grew on me, and one night, when I went to let the little dogs out (she's a little bigger than the elderly Maltese that owns my wife, but not much) she launched herself off the front porch to go after a coyote in the front yard.  Apparently she didn't realize that the coyote left turds that weighed more than she does. I managed to anchor the coyote before disaster ensued, but it did give me pause.  Until I took the little twerp in for her annual checkup, and told the vet what happened.  He said "She was protecting you.  Your own family may not give you the time of day, but your dog will die for you without thinking twice about it."

So, yeah she's got a home here, forever.

Don't know about the "good" part, she's pretty adamant about not wanting to go outside when it's raining, and when I'm working nights, she growls at The Boss when she comes in to wake me up for work.  When I'm home, her permanent duty station seems  to be about 4 inches behind my right heel, and when I'm gone, I have to leave a T-shirt on the floor for her to sleep on until I get home.

That's one that's for separation anxiety, and keep her well socialized, so she doesn't start thinking anyone but family is a danger and tries to defend you from everybody.

Yup.  It'll take some work but you can teach a dog damned near anything you set your mind to - which is why they've been with us for so very long.

Oh, she loves everybody, and when I'm upstairs reloading she sits on The Boss's lap and watches TV with the other 4-legged dust mop.  But as soon as I come downstairs, she's off the chair and headed for the stairway.

And she's not really "growling" like when she chased the neighbor's 60-lbs. pit bull across the road.  It's more like grumbling, since it means that I'm going to be leaving and she can't go with me.  She does the same thing when I make her go outside when it's raining.
