Walmart Federal ammo
« on: February 28, 2010, 08:19:44 PM »
I picked up a few boxes of .45 today for $17/50. I haven't seen it before. What's the word, any good? Headstamp is Federal 45 Auto.

I heard it's the same as Independence ammo, but have no way to confirm that. I don't care, for $17 a box I'll take it.

Brass or steel cases?

$34/100 is still not cheap.  I was buying WWB 100 packs for $28.88 last June.

Brass case. A WWB 100 round pack is 32.88 around here, but I haven't seen it in stock at any Walmart for months.

Is that good or bad? Cheapest .45 I can find outside of Walmart is Blazer at the gun store for $21, or if I want brass they have Aguila for $24.

I haven't found the Federal in .45 around here, but I have shot the 9mm Federal that I bought at Walmart.  It shoots great and haven't had any problems with them.  If I were to find it in .45, I would buy it for sure.

I also pick up some , six boxes to be exact. The max amount the kind old lady behind the counter would sell me. Pimple faced kid said truck had just brought it in that very morning.   So I went back that eve and bought six more, Cheapest I have seen .45 in a long long time.  Looks to be ok stuff.

Our local wallyworld is out of ammo...Ironic considering they were the only ones with ammo for along time.

  I consider myself lucky.

PMC .45=$14 per 50 brass cased.
Blazer .45=$13 per 50 aluminum cased.

Cheaper than what we could find back before the scare, with FIocchi going $17 per 50.

Personally, I'm not so hot on WWB....9mm won't shoot worth a flying buck out of my BHP, and the .45 WWB I've shot seems dirtier than even the wolf I've tried.

Just so you guys know, Federal is near the top quality wise as far as pistol brass goes.

On a chance I asked the gal at my local walmart if she had any 45 ammo and she reaches under the counter and pulls out a box of this Federal ammo, $15 and change per box, I bought the 6 she would let me;) I'm going back tomorrow;)

Looks like good stuff, brass looks good we shall see how it shoots but that's really not that bad as far as I am concerned. I wanna say I paid a little chunk more than that to pick up some last year when I got an ammo can full of reloads and that was right before, to the start of the ammo scare.

Either way just wanted to pass on that this ammo is out there and apparently varies in price by store since mine appears to be a couple bucks cheaper.

I'd like to try some of that Federal ammo... but the ammo shelves at my local Walmart are still empty for the most part.

Did you ask though or just look at the shelves? I'd been looking and I had even asked and I hadn't heard anything but today I asked and it was a different woman(who seemed to know much more about ammo), and she just plucked them from behind the counter where I couldn't see. So our normal area where ammo is *stocked* is still pretty empty but she has some secret stash under the register with well at least more 45acp than she would let me buy. I appologized for buying her out and she explained 6 boxes a day so she does have more, at least until I go back tomorrow ;D

Lesson learned, make sure to ask your local walmart if they have any hidden:)

I don't support Wallyworld...Just on the very occasional time when locals are out of ammo.

Ours must be an exception, but the wally-world is MORE expensive than our locals  :o  100 rounds .45=$48.......

Plus, I'd rather pay an extra $2 per 50 for local support.

That said: I did get a killer deal on Rem-UMC .40 ammo.   $52 for 250 rounds.

Federal does have some of the best Brass around and is IMO the cleanest burning ammo, Winchester a close second. Independence ammo is Federals re-manufactured line of ammo. I have never had any problems with any federal ammo what so ever. Now i can't say the same about Remington/UMC. Our local wallyworld is selling RWS 9mm ammo for $19/50.

Geez I wish I had your problems. Walmart does notsell ammo here. "Sports Authority"( there's a misnamed company if I ever heard one) only sell's during the "hunting season". We are mostly at the mercy of the limited gun shops. And the 2x yearly gun shows. I usually save up to make 1 eah year. since they are only held in Honolulu. Stopped at Wally world on my way home after reading this thread at work.  Well Sure enough Federal 230 grain FMJ for $15.97 per box of 50.  I could just cry. I bought a box, and will have to go back to get more. :clap
I just have a hard time giving money to Wally world.  I won't go to the one by me because I can't speak Spanish and that is the main language there.  :facepalm
But for 45 acp ammo at $16 box, well my principles are not that strong I guess.
