Top Quality AR15 Mags
« on: December 04, 2016, 08:35:17 pm »
Since the election is done and there is no ban in the near future, what are some of the top quality brands for AR Magazines?  MagPul PMags are a given.  What else out there?  I've seen many new companies.

I thought I heard that Lancer made good mags.

HexMag
Amend2
Surefire

I've never tried these.  Just want to know what else I should consider.

I just buy Pmags for the most part.  Cheap and good recognition if it ever comes to a panic and I need cash  ;)

I have some Lancers and like them, wish I could find em for $9 again and I'd buy a ton more.   Also have abuncha C-products magazines I got for $6.99, I've never had a problem with em.

D&H makes decent aluminum ones as does Brownells.  C-Products are fine, they have both aluminum and steel.

Basically any of the companies that also have USGI contracts are fine.  We actually have a company here in town that makes them,  but I think they just do government contracts and don't sell to the public.

I usually will avoid anything made by Pro-Mag.  Just way too many reports of everything they make being crappy, no matter which platform it is intended for.

This is a good point.  While USGI mags are probably more useful as far as mags go, they have a perception as being 'vanilla,' and 'last generation.'  Pmags are okay...  I guess...  They work.  But what they really have is that allure of being 'Magpul,' that will command a few extra dollars in any scare.

I think so. my 3 have worked well and I like having steel in a magazine.

Metal, at least.  Pmags just strike me as cheap.  They are light, which is nice, but that is their only appeal for me over USGI.  And honestly... the weight difference between those is slight.

From now on, I'm only buying Lancers.  But that's just me.   The big machinegun rental place in Vegas just put out a thing about magazines and they say they use the Brownells USGI types... but I'd take that with a dash of salt.

I didn't see that, but... yeah.  It would seem Brownells is providing them with unlimited, free replacement magazines for the next two years.

I have mostly PMags and Lancers. I carry PMags on duty.  I use Lancers and PMags to train. I've never had any issue with either one.  I just bought some Tango Down ARCs Thai really like. PMags are going to be issued to us in the near future.

I'd rather carry them than aluminum and it doesn't have a thing to do with their name.

All mags are disposable anyways. Use them until they start failing then relegate them to training or trash them.

So it sounds like no one has any experience with HexMag or Amend2.  These are the 2nd and 3rd most available mag at my distributors.

I'm looking at lancers. but their like $5 more then Pmags and $7 more then USGI.
    I usually get C-products.

I've considered getting some H&K steel AR mags, which are in Pmag range at my supplier. but also like 4-6 oz. more then an aluminum or Pmag.

I use Pmags, and I *gasp* never put the dust covers on either. No problems, so that's what I stick with.

I heard Hexmags were every bit as good as Pmags but I don't own them myself.

Either your range's Pmags are grossly overpriced, or the 'HK' mags are Asian knockoffs.  Sorry, but that is going to be the truth of it.  :shrug

He sells pmags for about 13, and steel mags for about 15. Lancer magazines float between 17 and 20.

I'm not to questioning about it, because there's another shop that selling CETME mags for $20 each. But at the same time pmags for 10 I'm Wilson Combat 1911 magazines for round 25 when every other Shop sells them for a minimum of 35 around here.

Oh, okay.  Just regular 'USGI' steel mags.  Not HK steel, which should go for north of $50.

I've had more problems with C-Products than any other magazines... Including those SIG Mags that came with the SIG 556's when they first came out.

I don't know that I abuse my mags in a way that gives me the right to an opinion, but my impression of my Hexmags is that they are very well made.  Typically I only buy PMags, but the price was so good I took a chance.  So far, no issues.
